What paint colour to go with these Bert and May tiles

Not sure what colour to paint our bathroom. We will have these tiles from Bert and May in the shower and basin area and warm wood herringbone Lvt flooring.
Thinking of a simple white/ light grey but not sure whether to go for something a bit more exciting. I’m not usually a neutral person.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Nice tiles!

Have you got a pic of the flooring as well, how warm are we talking? What’s the light and space like?

My first thought is a monochromatic approach, seeing as your wood and black/white tiles are all neutral (IMO), and choosing one colour from the colour wheel but using in lots of different shades. Personally I like greens in bathrooms as I like lots of houseplants and it’s the perfect place for a home jungle! So say strong mid-green wall or maybe an all-green botanical/jungle wallpaper if the layout would work with paper, pale sage or apple ceiling with forest green on the woodwork, for example. Or how about colour blocking all surfaces in lots of different green shades. And lots of living greenery as well, in various black/white/wood/bamboo/shades of green containers.

Or, simpler perhaps, a complementary pair of colours but in the same tone, like a pastel pink and mint green would be quite fresh and modern IMHO. Sky blue and peach might be a bit more unusual Grin

You could really do anything with black/white/wood as the base.

I think those tiles are busy enough I would probably go with white.

agentscully · 15/02/2022 20:33

Thanks for the replies, this is similar to the flooring we will have. I wanted something with some warmth to it so the bathroom wasn’t too stark with the black and white tiles.
I guess that’s why I thought I would go with white as I’ll have the warmth from the floor but I’m so used to and love having colour.
Don’t want to make a mistake as we’re having someone do the whole bathroom including painting which is a bit of a treat.

I'd go for something in the green spectrum too - neutral but not cold. Or one of the setting plaster type colours, but those are perhaps a bit of a trend.

Try pigeon (F&B), or blue grey. Both are more green than blue in my opinion but are fab in bathrooms (I've got similarly bold tiles and they work very well).

LemonViolet · 16/02/2022 06:35

Lovely floor as well!

Yeah, do greens, I could be lush (jungle pun there, sorry!)

White would be quite stark for me personally, yes the tiles aren’t shrinking violets but that’s no reason that they need to be the thing of interest in the room. What pattern are you thinking of having them in? I was looking in the B&M site, I like the haphazard one in your photo, but also they look really striking laid to create giant chevrons.

He’s my artists impressions of those tiles with greens btw Grin (very limited visualiser app just for fun!) and a pic I found of a lovely green bathroom with wood and b&w tiling

Agree with @LemonViolet that green would be good, or else a lovely blue. Have a look at Edward Bulmer Invisible Green or Azurite.

I would avoid greys personally unless they have a lot of another colour in them- I think they could be rather deadening against the black and white.

Herja · 16/02/2022 06:58

A bright yellow!

LemonViolet · 16/02/2022 07:04

Early morning brain sorry

IT could be lush, not I

no reason that they need to be the ONLY thing of interest (obviously the tiles are a thing of interest, they are very beautiful!)

My new paint colour obsession is sulking room pink. I think it'd look amazing.

agentscully · 16/02/2022 08:03

Thanks for all the replies.

@JuneOsborne love sulking room pink, we have it in our bedroom.

@LemonViolet thanks so much for the pics, they definitely help. I’m torn between the random look and the chevron, I like both designs. Might get the other half to make that decision.

@Bridgetina that’s what I was thinking, I want the colour to add to the room not to calm it down.

I had hoped to avoid buying tester pots but I think that exactly what I’ll be doing today!

I think spending (time & money) on testers & samples is always worth it. It’s just taken me six to find the pink I want for very small highlights in one room! But I’d rather spend that £12 or so and be very happy with the colour I choose. I paint minimum A4 size samples on scrap paper, 2 coats, and then move them around the space for a few days to see how the colour changes in different lights. Then I (plan/try to!) keep the samples in a file in case I’m looking for a similar colour in a different room later.

Pattern wise, personally, I think the crazy paving style would work best in a bigger space, and something more regular like a chevron could work anywhere. Also, strong geometrics contrast very nicely with botanicals, just saying Grin

cookiemonster2468 · 16/02/2022 08:46

I would either go with greys as you suggest, or otherwise something really bright, like a bright blue, red or pink. Something that will really pop.

Definitely don't go with anything pastel or pale if you go for colour. Those are bold tiles so the colour needs to be bold as well.

LemonViolet · 17/02/2022 06:34

I was thinking about the pattern with an “and both” approach….if it’s a tall space for example you could start with a regular pattern at the bottom/middle, and have it kind of breaking away and going more crazy the higher up you went. Hope that makes sense.

If this were me I’d be doodling endlessly on graph paper Grin

We can’t do our bathrooms for a while as they are the most functional thing in the house, but I’ve added those tiles to my Pinterest!

Hope you have fun playing with testers OP Grin
