Awkward child doesn't know what she wants. Not even a colour. She isn't 'girly', pink is definitely out. Want it to last until early teens, but accessories can change over the years (meaning the walls and blind can't change). Furniture is white.

What ideas would you suggest to her?

She likes giraffes, extreme sports, exploration and Harry potter.

For my DD, when she moves room next year, I'm going to do two of the walls in this wallpaper, and the other walls painted. Regardless of which colourway she chooses, we'll paint with Teresa's Green (F&B but get it mixed up at Johnstone's).

I did this in our old house (different bold wallpaper with contrasting but subtle paint) and it works a treat.

Allows for all sorts of eclectic shenanigans- perfect for a kid with revolving tastes!

Alternatively, choose a muted but cheerful paint (greens are quite in), and go mad with posters/framed prints.

Ooh forgot the main bit, the giraffe wallpaper!

Our 10 year old has maurderers map wallpaper and yellow walls with black curtains and lampshade as she is a hufflepuff! She's had it ages and can't see it being outgrown for a longtime. We can paint the walls if she wants a change. She has some black frames with Harry Potter pictures in that can be changed.

Thank you go ideas. I had this vague idea of painting a wall to resemble giraffe print then remembered I have the artistic skills of a baby wombat.

What about a kawaii pastel theme?
Think baby blue, mint green, pale lemon & lilac.
The white furniture would go with that.
You could maybe paint the walls one colour, have the curtains another colour & duvet cover etc a different colour again?

Like these rooms.

Also kawaii/kpop/Japanese culture is super popular with this age & teens. The room could be changed up for when they're a teen. Or keep the walls cream/white & just add pastel accessories?

I think she'll like multi coloured. Definitely worth showing her those.

My 8 year old daughters is very colourful as she loves rainbows etc.

Possibly too girly for your DD though?

I insisted on not having all pink walls ( as she originally wanted) to try and give the decor a slightly funkier edge for when she gets a bit older.

Not sure if I succeeded, but for now she loves it!

You can get giraffe spot wall stickers. Then if she goes off giraffes in a couple of years they can be easily removed

My DD has white walls with green blinds, and at the moment the rest of the room has a rainbow theme - rainbow duvet, rug, pictures, accessories, etc.; but these can all be really easily changed up when she gets a bit older and wants something a bit different. I’d go for similar neutral walls etc. for this age and theme the pictures/accessories instead, because the room can be easily redone in a couple of years with new duvet and pictures/cushions etc. without too much expense.

The key thing is the colour of the blinds/curtains so that they are adaptable to other themes! Is your house new or old?
