Kitchen island cost

Hi,
Redoing our kitchen (knocking a wall down, changing layout slightly) but keeping units just painting doors etc. However we want to add an island in the middle, size 1.2x1.7m with three cupboards underneath and space for a wine rack. Howdens have quoted £1,600 for the island alone. It seems steep to me (doesn't include worktop), does anyone have any experience of how much an island usually costs?!

Have a look at diykitchens. My island cost about half that. Long lead times though. It's 1.5 metres by 900mm. Worktop was extra.

Thank you! Their kitchens look great, can you get a designer to help? I wouldn't know where to start...

Karen Wallace at One plan gets mentioned a lot on here. I've not used her myself, but she has many positive reviews.

We built our own using two cabinets left over from our Handmade Kitchens of Christchurch kitchen (we actually purchased these for our previous house but never fitted them, so the space/layout was different here 🙄) and my talented DH added to these with open shelving for plates and books. I know that open shelving isn't to everyone's taste but it's what we wanted for our space 😉 The HMKOC cabinets are a set of pan drawers and wine rack...

He then put a deep marine ply top on, to which he applied microcement.

Our island is 2.45 x 1.1m and even DIYing part of it, it still cost around £1200.

It might be worth taking a look on the likes of eBay for someone selling a used island, perhaps.....

Send your quote to [email protected] ask for Andy he was amazing with our kitchen, we bought a full kitchen but I remember them saying that if you have a quote from one of the high street companies they will beat it! It's always worth a try if it saves money we saved enough to go on a holiday abroad x
