Complimentary "zoning" lights? How?

We're replacing our bedroom standad white pendant light with something fancy soon.

My desk is in the corner of the room. It can't go anywhere else. The bright white high wattage bulb in the current bedroom light in the centre of the room doesn't give me enough light to work so the new one will be useless.

I think my best bet is to get a one of those height adjustable ceiling lights for above my desk. I have no room for a desk or floor lamp.

But! The room is small. How do I compliment the light for the desk with the central light when they'll be so different?

You can either link them by e.g. colour or material or shape. Don't buy from the same range, that would be too matchy. But in my sittingroom I have 4 table lights and none of them were bought to match each other or the central light and I think that's fine so I wouldn't worry too much. Just buy a task light you really love and there will probably be some underlying link you'll notice after a while.
