Bathroom: quality storage

Argh please help! After ordering and sending back another batch of cheap, flimsy storage solutions, I'm so desperate for someone to point me in a better direction.

I'm after
A laundry basket
A storage solution for Bathroom Bits (currently in little wicker baskets on a shelf) super handy, perfect useful size...I'm just not keen on the open plan "here's my thrush cream" look). We have a big young family and small home so keep all hair stuff/pjs/toiletries in the family bathroom. This won't change unfortunately.

Everything I've found has been
Felt (doesn't it get damp and mouldy?)
Wicker (snaps off, doesn't look nice after a while, a bit passé. But airy...which is good I guess?)
Plastic (yay! Wipe clean! Looks cheap and tacky.)

I want something like...hmmm...the equivalent of cashmere jumper or granite worktops. Quality assured, long lasting, unobtrusive aesthetic, easy to maintain. Basically, I'm not fussed with being trendy or faddy...I want nice, stylish functionality, even if it is boring. Like a perfect trench coat or perfect jeans.

Please help! Budget flexible.

How big do you need the storage containers to be? Have you looked at office/kitchen storage as well as bathroom storage?

How about lidded wood or bamboo boxes, either natural or lacquered? Mini wooden drawers? Can you decant toiletries into nicer bottles/dispensers? I use brown glass bottles, pots and apothecary jars but we are all adults here... I also have red enamelled metal large first aid boxes that are just tall enough for a small bottle of shampoo/shower gel if you wanted to use them for toiletries too. In one bathroom, I have bamboo bathroom caddies with matching plain denim blue wash bags in each caddie so it looks tidy and stops things getting dusty.

There are plenty of wood/bamboo/metal/fabric laudry baskets and cupboards available if you don't like wicker.

Have you got room for a chest of drawers?

Gladioli23 · 26/01/2022 15:22

How much space have you got? Could you just buy a normal, wooden chest of drawers and paint it with something hard-wearing that doesn't mind getting wet? Not sure what you'd do about the laundry basket as I can't face having to empty one basket into another so I just have a big fabric bag which I can just carry to the washing machine.

What is your bathroom currently like? Do you have a built in drawer or cupboard under the sink? Any floor space for tall storage?

Maybe look at ikea for some bigger storage you can then add baskets into. www.ikea.com/gb/en/cat/bathroom-storage-ba002/

I would look at:
Unit to go under sink
Tall unit for laundry basket in and pjs
Mirror Cabinet above sink for toiletries

I have quite a few Curver baskets dotted around the house. They're plastic but... nice. Or at least, not nasty and cheap looking. They work well for me.

We have an old Lloyd Loom laundry basket which was my Nanna's so is probably at least 90 years old as she would be 135 if still alive! It's not massive but has a wooden frame so acts as a little seat for small people. I've recovered the lid a couple of times and love it.

Made.com has nice laundry baskets like this one

For closed storage - well it really depends what space you have to fit it in. Do you want a wall cabinet? Tall slim cabinet? Undersink?

tikamoon has some nice looking teak or other hardwood options which will definitely last. Not the cheapest mind you.

la redoute wooden bathroom storage also worth a look

I have this from Homebase (they do other sizes)

Blomus is the best bathroom brand I have found. All their stuff is well designed, well made and classy. And sometimes they are in TK Maxx.
