What would you do with this room?

Here's my new living room/lounge which needs some tlc. What would you do with it?

It’s a nicely proportioned room with some good character.

I’d keep all the original features. What’s under the carpet?

Ooh lovely room with some nice features, I would be inclined to paint the walls right up to the coving the same colour, some built in base cupboards in the alcoves with some open shelving above.
Can’t quite make out the fireplace it looks as though the tile surround may be thirties style not sure about the wood surround is that original or a later add on?

Depending on the state of the floorboards, I'd rip up the carpet and varnish the boards.

I'd also remove whatever that is in the alcoves and have some nice alcove units fitted for maximum storage.

I'd paint it a bold 'jewel'toned colour as it looks like it has good ceiling height (what period of house is it? 1920's?)

I think that there are original floorboards under the carpet - certainly are in other rooms where the carpet is more patchwork and doesn't go the edges. The kitchen has quarry tiles under the Lino......
