Tell me about your lovely home office

We moved recently so I now have a dedicated home office that I’m very pleased about. It’s the only room in the house that’s entirely for my personal use (my husband also has his own dedicated office for his sole use) so I can decorate it any at I want without having to consider the wants and needs of others.

So far, I’ve ordered a lovely wooden desk, a lamp, and a nice colourful rug. I also have a collection of lovely houseplants in nice pots- some on the floor in tall posts on stands, some in smaller pots on the window.

So far, the walls are bare, they’re painted a very soft pastel mauve which I like and want to keep.

It’s not a huge room (maybe 10’ x 8’) but does have a really big west-facing window so nice and bright.

Do you have something in your office that you just love that might inspire me, please? Pictures would be fantastic if anyone was willing to share.

I have this chair next to my big window with a kantha quilt www.habitat.co.uk/product/4165707?clickPR=plp:2:11
It's nice to have another place to sit.
I've painted a chalkboard on one wall.
I'm really messy so my desk is lshaped as I need more space,

Mosaic123 · 18/01/2022 20:37

A kettle and mini fridge unless the kitchen is very close.

ShroomCuppaSoup · 18/01/2022 22:57

I love that chair (and your username!), @GrimDamnFanjo.

I like how you think, @Mosaic123. I’m very close to the kitchen though, and a habitual snacker, so probably best to not give myself hiding places for chocolate, as much as I’d like to.

Any kind of second comfortable seating you can fit in there even if you think it's too large for the room. Try a cutout first on the floor. Accessorise with the most comfortable blanket you can afford (and don't share it with anyone!).

A fruit bowl, water bottle and pump dispenser hand cream - buy, source especially for you so they look nice and make you want to use them. Keep them topped up. My fruit bowl is a collection of rejects from the house with the odd carrot and pepper. Pump dispenser bottle is from an older face cream and I top up with any hand cream or skincare I can find so sometimes there's a mix of 3 different creams. Water bottle is one of those where you can put things in - usually mint leaves or some fruit for a bit of flavour.

That's a very good idea!

Small Amazon echo type thing for podcasts is nice, a few fidget things to help you concentrate or that might just be me, a couple of items you just really enjoy looking at... driftwood, stone, ceramic elephant! I hate clutter and mess so have a small pedestal bin and storage with doors. I also have a land-line which is handy at times. Oh and a set of digital scales, out of sight.

My office room is what was the box room - it has a single loft bed desk in it and then a bit of room at the end for another little desk. I have stacks of books, paintings and prints on the wall arranged in clusters, LED lights that twinkle on timers, hanging plants from the ceiling and loads of toys - vintage bears and Star Wars figures. Pink sheepskin rug. I've got a drawer full of supplements for energy and health. I've got a pot with makeup in it for Zoom calls. Loads of art materials. I'm in the process of organising bits of it but I love curating it all.

I have a bright blue wall with open wooden shelves the way down in front of the colour.

That's directly behind my desk so a nice background for work video calls.

My home office is painted red. It has a chair, folders for every person and a desk too. A few cookbooks and other books are kept on a bookcase behind me. One plant on the windowsill in the room for me and I also have a printer in there as well. To complete it, I hang a photo or two on the bare walls to liven up the room.

Thanks everyone- some lovely sounding offices here.

Got an email this morning to say the delivery of my new desk and cabinet has been delayed but I’m hoping it won’t take much longer. Until they arrive, everything is just piled up a bit.

I’ve added a little Perspex bird feeder to the outside of my window. It’s suckered on. Had a little Blue Tit check it out earlier so hoping for some more bird activity.

I’ve also added a pair of binoculars because we get rabbits at the bottom of the garden Blush

I agree with this. I have a small sofa in my home office, which is really nice for reading or for long Zoom meetings when I don't have to be on camera. My office is a bit larger than yours, OP, but not by much. The walls are painted a pale green which is my favorite decorating color.

A wine fridge for wine Fridays.

I’m envious of your offices! We’re moving soon so I can have one, so following for inspo.

Classicblunder · 20/01/2022 13:21

I have a yoga mat and some weights so that I can take short breaks for exercise conveniently. I often have meetings that I just need to listen to rather than speak in so I sometimes turn the camera off and do some exercise

Following!

ShroomCuppaSoup · 20/01/2022 13:21

I just realised that between rabbits and birds and houseplants, I make it sound like I do no work.

I actually do, I promise. I just spend a lot of time on stressful, occasionally shouty, conference and video calls so like having pleasant things to focus on.

Moved into the house we're in a couple of years ago. There is a purpose built office in of the bedrooms with lots of bespoke built in furniture and shelves in dark wood. The executive pedestal desk we already had fits perfectly, with a green bankers lamp on the desk too. There is a sofa in the room too which is a sofa bed. The desk faces the window and the view is of sheep and the moor in the distance. I purposely didn't hand any curtains. It's a lovely place to work.

FlipflopHatstand · 20/01/2022 13:38

I've a sofa which makes a huge difference, especially when reading reports.
Things I find functional but massively useful:
Clock above my desk so when looking at the webcam it isn't a huge stretch to look up at a clock for the time.
A daylight LED light panel. Makes a huge difference when it's dark outside, yet feels like a summers day inside.
A wall of shelves filled with plants opposite my desk. Gives me something to look up at, further than my screen and lets my eyes adjust to different distances.
I also love my diffuser which allows different scents/boosts for different moods.

CovidCorvid · 20/01/2022 13:44

I have a 3mx2.5 office.
I have a desk with my laptop and a Samsung smart monitor on it. Desk is from Ikea, it's quite shallow, like 150cmx50cm. Small book case by the side of it.

I have a 2 seater sofa on the other wall, so technically the office can be used in the evenings for watching netflix, etc on the smart monitor.

Then by the side of the sofa I have a turbo trainer and bike set up.

Same here!
HeyMicky · 20/01/2022 14:17

I have several clocks on the wall set to different time zones - home, my mum in another country, the US office.

A glass "white"board

Several lamps in different places to vary the lighting on calls across the day

Bookcase behind me with various interesting things on it, which breaks up the background and are sometimes talking points

Wall art is vintage travel posters - little bit of escapism

WalkingOnSonshine · 20/01/2022 14:22

A lot of storage in the desk and enough space on the top for stand, lamp, printer, keyboard, mouse, second screen and notebooks.

I have cool wallpaper to look at and pictures behind me. I have a pull out single sofa bed from Made and my Neom diffuser.
