Please help choose worktop and cupboard colour

We have great quality cupboards so looking for a cheaper way to update the kitchen, and hopefully will be able to replace the worktop and paint the cupboards.

I can see photos online of what I like but need help please knowing what colours they are! We love the Tom Howley kitchens.

Attached is a photo of our kitchen. I don't like the black worktop at the back as it's too dark and I don't like the granite worktop on the island as its too "busy". I'd like something a lot more uniform in colour - I think Silestone is what is recommended?

The second photo is the look I'm hoping to achieve. Any ideas what colour those cupboards are please? I thought maybe paint the island cupboards blue? And definitely the same colour worktop all the way, not the two different worktops we have inherited.

thank you for anyone with an eye for colour who could help.

What a beautiful room you have.

It is a beautiful kitchen!

In terms of colours, they will vary according to the light in your kitchen so there's really no substitute for getting some tester pots. Try Little Greene Air Force Blue or Farrow &Ball Stone Blue for your first picture. The grey will also vary hugely according to your space - LG French Grey Light is a lovely colour to try, have a search on Pinterest for [colour name] + kitchen to get some ideas then put together a shortlist of 3-4 to order tester pots.

Gorgeous kitchen! Our lovely new kitchen is almost identical style and colour scheme to your second picture, plain white worktops and pale cupboard doors. Our doors are Farrow & Ball 'peignoir', slightly pinky soft grey, it's a truly beautiful colour.

Plain worktops show EVERY mark. Just saying.

lookforthesun · 19/01/2022 07:36

That’s a good point about the worktops showing every stain or mark. Does anyone have a colour or style they recommend, maybe with a slight mottle through it?

Thank you for all the help.

The absolute best thing to do for worktops is to find a local granite / stone warehouse, and go and look at them. There are these wonder places full of enormous great slabs of rock, and you can get a much better idea of what you might like than looking online.

That granite you have is quite busy looking, but if you went for a finer grained one without so many white minerals, it would look a lot more even.

We knew a wood worktop would look best in our sage green and cream kitchen, but also knew we would not look after it properly, so we ended up choosing this one (called Labrador Antique) as it’s quite soft brown overall, but has gorgeous flashes of turquoisey labradorite crystal in there as well. (Pic not of our kitchen but the same stone).

I have a kitchen exactly like the one in your second photo so I love it!

I love the contrast of the darker coloured island personally.

My worktops are carrera marble effect quartz and they're amazing, I had dark worktops before and was constantly buffing and wiping them - I don't have to do that any more as the lighter colour is far more forgiving. I've split curry and red wine etc on them and nothing has stained them and they're not porous.

The colour of that Tom Howley island looks like Farrow and Ball's 'Hague Blue'
