Calming bedroom inspiration please!

Currently a white bedroom with white wooden blinds, we tried curtains and didn't like the look so we're looking at putting up Roman blinds or something to finish the room off.

I'm stuck for colours, I'm a bit afraid of colour to be honest I love a clean calm space. I'm struggling for inspiration, I like modern but cosy, no mirrored chest of drawers or trays with vases of fake flowers or signage such as 'live love laugh'

Just a clean calming sanctuary that has that lovely cosy feel but without feeling cluttered or too clinical if that makes any sense.

I am rubbish at this, I'm so afraid to 'get it wrong' which is madness!

What do you have at the moment that you want to keep? What do you feel is missing? If you're all going white (which I love) you'll need lots of texture and natural materials (e.g. wood, sisal, rattan, linen, wool, etc etc). Kate Watson-Smyth says all room need the following: something new, something old, something black, something gold. By gold she means shiny. I like to mix up designer, vintage, high street and IKEA. Then meaningful (to you) ornaments and art.

Thank you, we only have a long and low set of 8 drawers at the moment. No ornaments nothing to 'dress' the windows

I know you've said no to curtains, but what about a pair of linen curtains as well as a roller blind or roman blind. In a slight oat-y or mushroom-y colour that will add a bit of interest without going crazy on colours?

Also 100% agree with PP, bring in additional textures:

  • an elegant natural wood bedside table or bedroom chair
  • a rug or cushions in a different texture (wool, sheepskin, velvet)

If you’re after a pale-colourless room, then imo the only way to avoid it looking clinical is by adding texture. If you think of textures like you’d think of patterns, it makes it easier - so just like you wouldn’t put lots of big patterns together you don’t put lots of big textures together. So oatmeal coloured tweedy thing won’t contrast enough with a velvet outmealy thing,(because they’re both middle-sized textures) but will look great with big chunky knitting / faux Mongolian fur (big texture) or very fine linen/cotton/silk (small texture).

So we went for a calm but pretty look on our spare room. Walls all one colour China clay deep and curtains and bedding to tie on with that. Venetian blinds and couple of nice prints. We find gentle colours just as easy to love with as white but a bit more interesting.

My bedroom is that colour + white with blush bedding. I have a few fluffy cushions, and a soft throw.
It is soooo peaceful, I love it.

Look up Studio McGee, they do decor schemes based largely on white with lots of natural and textures. If you look on Pinterest or do a google image search for Studio Mcgee bedrooms you’ll find lots.

Add plants? Or a sheepskin rug next to the bed? What’s on the floor, carpet or floorboards or laminate, and what colour? Does it need a big braided white/oatmeal rug if not carpeted?
Have you got any pictures up? What’s the lighting like? Overhead lights and bedside lamps, and what do they look like? If you look at all of those and change anything ugly/boring to a neutral but interesting and ideally made of natural materials version, it will look more calming and pretty.
