Is this rug nice?

We’ve recently moved and I’m in the throes of decorating our bedroom. I have been furniture, flooring and bedding, just waiting for the plastering to be done so I can paint!

I’m going for a sort of mid-century, Miami kind of vibes thing, the walls will be either pink or teal, or maybe both (I quite like the idea of teal up to about 2/3 and then pink at the top).

Anyway - this is the room so far with the rug down. I was so sure this style would suit, but now I’m not too sure. I also got this rug from La Redoute, have got two other rugs from them but this one is very thin rather than the sturdier feels-like-carpet type I have elsewhere. Not sure if that’s just because this style is like that.

Anyway here’s pictures - thoughts and opinions please!

It's a nice enough rug but really hard to tell if it suits the room as it is. I'd do the walls first, then bedding & curtains and then try the rug. The placement seems a bit off too, I think the entire bed should be on it, not just 3/4 of it?

It looks a bit studenty to me. Fine, but a bit uni accommodation.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 11/01/2022 16:54

I think it's pretty neutral so goes quite well. I have read complaints about that particular berber rug not wearing very well though.

It's nice, nothing to dislike about it.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 11/01/2022 17:21

I can’t put the bed fully on the rug unfortunately, I won’t be able to open the door. I think you’re right though that without the room finished you can’t really tell if it ‘goes’, it’s just inoffensive.

I think I’m going to send it back. I have a very strong idea of how I want the room to look, but I have struggled with the floor.

Ya cheeky mare! Grin That’s a proper in-style boho look!

Sorry! I wasn't trying to be rude but you asked!

It's neutral, so will probably go ok with whatever wall colour you choose. I love boho so don't think it looks remotely studenty 😁

We just bought a contemporary style wool kilim rug for our master bedroom from Homesense that is thinner than our other wool rugs so taking some adjustment 🙄

It's also smaller than we'd planned - but was a fab bargain so couldn't resist, lol - so currently doesn't cover all the floor beneath our super king bed. But we'll rectify this by layering with a plain rug underneath.

Tbh, even when we had a much larger rug in the room, it didn't fill the space entirely yet looked fine imho.

I don't particularly like it but it's neutral and may go with your eventual, painted result.

What I don't understand is why you have new rug, bedding and furniture it before you've painted? Confused

MacNTosh · 11/01/2022 23:50

I don’t think it works especially if you’re going for a mid century vibe.

@Faretheewellmyfairyfay

What I don't understand is why you have new rug, bedding and furniture it before you've painted?

The answer is twofold - I needed the furniture to literally be able to put stuff away. Else I’d be living out of bin bags for the foreseeable and tbh that was just upsetting me. Also, everything was much cheaper due to sales so I took advantage. Admittedly the rug was a step too far, but I needed new bedding as one set managed to get ripped pretty badly during the move.

I’m sending the rug back, I’ve decided I don’t like it enough to keep it.

@Firesidefox don’t worry I was just joshing WinkGrin
