Lots of houses have these over stairs cupboards. They are really tall and deep but i can't find any clever uses or designs for them. It has the large step up and will be a young teenage boy's room- any ideas please?

It’s quite small for a teenage boy, but I guess if he sleeps in the sitting position he’ll soon get used to it…!

Failing that, perhaps fit more shelves inside and use as a bookcase…

We took it out and had a joiner build a bed into it.

Looks like it used to be a boiler cupboard (before a combi boiler was installed elsewhere). Could you put a heater in it and use it as an airing cupboard for drying clothes?

Could you take the doors off and install something like this?

It's really big, way way deeper than even a very deep set of drawers. We have airing cupboard elsewhere, just feel like there should be something clever i can do with it.

To clarify, we wont make him sleep entirely in there 😂 but will think about the bed idea

Use it as a wardrobe and have more room space?

Good place to keep a futon for sleepovers/Wardrobe plus washing basket/shoe cupboard/pull out fittings for wardrobe to access the full depth?

MrsEricBana · 13/01/2022 05:18

I had one of those in a student bedroom once and it was amazing because it absorbed an enormous amount of stuff and kept the room itself pretty clear.

A step up made to become 'walk in-ish' wardrobe?

thelegohooverer · 17/01/2022 15:08

I would have to turn that into a secret cupboard with a bookshelf in front or a wardrobe with a false back.

Tall & deep is great for sports kit etc. get light plastic boxes from Ikea with labels and you can store trainers / football boots etc in them.

I knocked it out and built a bed over it to make best use of the shape of the room. Yes it's good for storage, but only of you never want to get to whatever is at the back of it...
