Going from dark painted wall to white wall.

Currently in our living room, one wall is painted a dark colour (the rest white) has been like that for around 5 years, I’ve loved it but have grown bored of it for last 6 months or so. I did think of suede paint for a brief moment but came to my senses realised it wouldn’t work & DH would never agree to what I had visioned!

So I’m pretty much decided that I just want to paint over the dark wall white. I know I’ll have to use a primer/undercoat first? Then apply the white paint - I’ve used Crown Easy Clean paint before & its pretty good stuff so I’m looking at that in Chalky White.

Has anyone gone from dark walls to light? Did you miss your dark painted walls or did you love it?

We have dark laminate flooring with a couple of dark wood painted furniture so I really think they would look better against a white wall.

Okay so looking at primers & undercoats, if I am just going to have it white would I be okay in just using this?

Or would I actually need the Crown easy clean paint, a white emulsion paint as well?

Did it with lots of coats. Love it

Just normal paint

I vaguely remember trying to paint over a dark coloured wall (a different house) with some normal white emulsion paint & it was a nightmare, took about 7 coats! I remember DH stressing I should have used a primer or something!

I’m thinking if I just want the wall to be white anyway I could just get away with using the primer paint without having to buy the white emulsion. Unless there’s a ‘all in one’ kind of paint, primer & emulsion type, might be expensive but could be more cost effective than buying a separate primer & emulsion.

Dulux do one, it used to be called once but I think they changed it very recently. They advise it should only take two coats over a dark colour.
