Bleaching wooden floor

Hi please can someone let me know whether it’s easy to bleach wooden floors. Bought a house and most of the downstairs has a dark golden wood floor. Real wood and expensive/excellent quality. Will I be ruining my floors if I bleach them/strip them. I prefer a more contemporary lighter wood look. Thanks

I sanded down my treacle-coloured floors (varnished solid oak parquet) and revarnished (3 coats) in a matt finish. The lighter wood really brightened and modernised the house but the finish isn't as practical (it's not fully watertight) and to be honest I sometimes wish I'd left the sealed wood in spite of the look being less appealing. It may the product I've used of course...
