Hi everyone.

I recently started working from home and up until now I've been working at a desk in my daughter's room. Her desk and chair are pretty basic and I think because of the poor quality of the chair I have been getting a lot of lower back pain as a result.

We dont have a spare room to turn into an office but we do have a fairly spacious living room where I would like to put a desk and chair. I'm looking for a nice stylish grey desk and a nice chair which wont look out of place or too officey in the living room. The chair needs to be good for back support. Does anyone have any recommendations? I

Also if anyone could share a pic of their living room desk area I would really appreciate it .

Thanks everyone.

Forgot to mention, I'm looking for something compact and I'm on a bit of a budget.

IKEA Alex is a smart desk and not too officey, also has good tech hiding sections!
I would look on FB or Gumtree as they often come up and are much cheaper than new.
Not sure on chairs, IKEA as well? CHeck the reviews?

It used to come in a plain grey, now discontinued, but as said they come up on FB etc.

Thanks for that, I do like the storage drawers on that.

Its nice because its quite timeless with no hardware, so goes with other things. And nice to be able to tidy away all the cables etc. The Alex drawers are also quite nice and stylish.

I know you said the chair shouldn’t be too officey, but this is key I think. I began WFH with a regular dining room chair at my kitchen table at the start of lockdown.

My shoulders and back really suffered and it wasn’t until I invested in a proper adjustable office chair with lumbar support that I began to feel comfortable again.

I agree I wouldn’t want an office chair in the living room but maybe you could move it when not in use and a nice slimline desk wouldn’t look out of place anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Lunaballoon, where was your chair from?

This is the chair I went for. I’ve been very happy with it but probably best if you try a few for size and functionality etc.

We bought the Micke desk from IKEA, it's perfect with storage as well.

Check out this MICKE from IKEA.
