I need to add some colour/style to our master bedroom. It's quite large, lowish ceiling though, wide window.

Currently the walls are all painted white whilst waiting to decide on a theme/scheme

The new carpet is a very pale silver grey. Large headboard is beige. So i need to include those into my planning.

There are spotlights in the ceiling as it is low, so no pendant light fitting - we do have nice table lamps either side of the bed though

I've trawled through pictures on Houzz and pInterest but nothing's grabbing me.

Any ideas please ?

Show us what you have now in a pic and we'll go from there. Do you imagine coloured wall or wallpaper. Do you like patterned curtains/ blinds or plain. I'd start with a fabric you like and go from there

No
Why even bother? Biscuit

OP it's tricky to suggest anything without having a current pic.

Paint your ceiling dark blue with stars and keep everything else light?

Or don't, I'm just a random on the internet!

Juniper68 · 29/12/2021 08:58

My colour scheme is dark blue wall opposite bed. Grey/taupe furniture. White walls. Burnt orange velour chair. Burnt orange bedside lamps. Dark blue curtains with pattern. It's gorgeous.

I’m not going to show you a picture of my bedroom but the carpet and headboard sound difficult to combine (cool v warm colour palette) could your recover the headboard or get a large rug to cover most of the carpet?

Think about colours first, chalky blues, blush pinks and sage greens work well in bedrooms in my opinion. Once you’ve decide on a main colour, choose your curtains or blinds. These will likely be your main expense.

Pegasussnail · 29/12/2021 09:04

I'm not at home but ours is large.. chalky white with large mirrors and a grey bedframe
One wall (behind the bed) is grape damask designed wall paper from Laura Ashley.

We recently put in a reclaimed fireplace that I painted in frenchic wedding day paint.

Few lamps. I like it.

A light blush pink like F&B Calamine? Painted my daughters room in it and would have happily had it for myself. Goes well will beige and grey.

We have Dulux Gentle Fawn in guestrooms which is nice and we have Dulux Perfectly Taupe in our bedroom, it’s a bit grey and I’m over grey now.

Get some paint cards from f&b and little green and then Search the #colour on instagram it’s a good way of seeing the colours in real life.

We've just decorated ours in Sulking Room Pink by F&B. It's a large Room approx 5x5.5 m with a large square bay window and Edwardian fireplace.

Gone for a greenish grey carpet, as like tge combination of dusty pink and sagey green.

The window lets in loads of light so slightly muted tones work well.

Our furniture is very mismatched but of a similar era.

dementedma · 29/12/2021 11:57

No chance. It contains second hand mismatched furniture, a pile of ironing, an ironing board, a heap of books on the floor and a sleeping cat.

Its painted a mushroom colour and has bronze/coppery curtains and a brown carpet.

Oh and a huge damp stain on the ceiling to finish it off

liveforsummer · 29/12/2021 14:02

I'm not sure other people's bedrooms will help you here because your needs are quite specific. I don't think the combo of carpet and headboard will work at all though. The headboard is probably the easiest of the 2 to change so will advise that as a starting point.

Isausernameavailable · 30/12/2021 12:17

Given the carpet and headboard are pretty neutral I'd choose curtains that you really like then pick up a colour from those for the walls. Do you want light and airy or warm and cosy?

Juniper68 · 30/12/2021 12:20

Beige headboard should go or be recovered imo. I agree choose nice patterned curtains then an accent colour from them.
