Do anyone has a mirror/art TV?

Any recommendations? Do they look good? Our living room doesn't have a fireplace and we don't want the TV to be the focal point, it's not a very wide room (though is fairly long) so we were thinking of getting an art or mirror TV but not sure....

The Samsung Frame is a shit TV

Sashwindowsquestions · 12/12/2021 21:23

I've just bought a 50 inch Samsung the frame tv and very happy with it. The art picture definitely still looks like a TV though unfortunately. I was hoping it would look more like real art. But I'm happy with the TV generally. And great that it's so lightweight!

Thanks, I think I am looking for the impossible on something that doesn't look like a TV but is one!

So I saw on an American show where they built a frame around the tv and fitted an electric roller blind in it which covered the tv when not in use. The roller blind had an art print on it. It looked like something you would have to get a carpenter to custom make but looked good.
A bit like below...

If you have a spare 10 grand and want to make your place look like a footballer’s house try one of these…

Have you thought about hiding the TV away in a cabinet or shelves with shutters?

cloudtree · 12/12/2021 23:12

Samsung frame. We have two

Neptune do a mirror frame that covers a 55" tv . Looks a bit thick, but I think it's better than the Samsung 'the frame' that I have, that looks like a frozen screen, not a picture.

swimchick1980 · 13/12/2021 23:01

Thanks everyone. Sadly I don't have £10k to spare 🤣. I have looked online for cabinets but not had much luck in seeing anything that would do. I'll check out Neptune frames. I would just love to have an interior designer come in and do it all for me, I am useless!!

Don't you think they're just really expensive for the quality of TV?

We bought another Samsung at half the price much better quality. And it has a portrait display mode thing.

We have a photos app on our LG smart TV and put a photo or photos on a memory stick and switch it to that when nobody is watching it.

I feel that things to pretend to be what they are not date really quickly. I'd own the black square. Make it a reference to Malevich.

We have a projector rather than a tv. Screen is only down when we want to watch something. Or if you have a good expanse of blank wall you don't even need the projector screen.

rrhuth · 14/12/2021 07:46

My personal feeling is the art or mirror TVs look a bit strange. They are fooling no-one so you end up with an expensive TV and no art.

I think you either hide the telly in a cabinet or with something else, or accept it. I don't have a huge telly but it is big enough, it is on a lowish cabinet and not the central thing, it is fine.

If I had a bigger room (don't get me started on how long we have been waiting to move!), I might get a nice screen to put in front of it, but then again I might not because no one cares.

No, our 55 inch for the living room was £750. The frame makes a massive difference as does the No Gap mount. The art in the art store isn’t great but the Etsy offerings are fab. The picture doesn’t look like a photo on a tv screen. We think the tv picture quality is amazing

Mind you the tv it replaced was almost 20 years old..

Hollyhead · 14/12/2021 07:52

I’d just embrace it, we have the tv on a low unit, some nice plants and pictures around it, and actually it’s really nice.

rrhuth · 14/12/2021 08:10

I do think having the TV lower is what makes it less noticeable. TVs on the wall are a bit 'WE WATCH A LOT OF TV' and also when they are on the viewers are staring right across the room on a high sightline.

Because ours is low and to the side, it can be on with one person watching something with everyone else not hugely aware.

We saw the frame next to a QLED, the difference was remarkable. The frame was poor.

We use ambient mode in the QLED to the same effect. Half the price. For a better picture and sound etc.

cloudtree · 14/12/2021 22:11

That’s good, I’m pleased you’re happy with it. I’m happy with the frame and various people have thought it was a picture rather than a tv, particularly due to the bevelled frame and the fact that there’s no gap between the tv and the wall. I didn’t want it to look like a tv and it doesn’t

FixTheBone · 14/12/2021 22:22

Can't find a picture with art mode on, but I sometimes forget it's a TV... Samsung 65inch frame.

Yes, you can get an oled or q90 for a similar price, but the software, no gap wallmountand hidden one connect box with s single translucent wire to the TV make up for it imo.

Apologies, no idea why demon tunip appears in the previous post....

cloudtree · 14/12/2021 22:35

I like the changeable frames too. I have white bevelled in the kitchen and wood in the living room

Saz12 · 15/12/2021 17:00

Can I ask: is it lit like a tv screen with frozen picture, or is it unlit like a painting? I dislike the look of our tv and need a new stand, so was considering one...

This is mine now in a room with lights on

It isn’t like a tv with a frozen screen. The picture is very slightly backlit in the dark but not backlit in a light room.
