Pink paint for living room

We're redecorating our living room and the family decision is a pink colour for the walls. We're looking for a "grown-up" pink.

Either a blush pink with yellowish tones, but I don't want it to look peach or terracotta, so it's a fine balance.

Or pink with grey tones, but don't want it to look lilac-ish.

Not really sure which would look best.

Our house is 1950s, and the room is south facing with a large bay window so sunny and bright in the day time . It has the original coved ceiling which I want to keep white (see pic with coved ceiling a freshly plastered wall!).

Can anyone recommend any pink paints in these shades?

Farrow and Ball Setting Plaster? Or Nancy’s Blushes.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 07/12/2021 15:07

We have pink ground and I'd say it's a grown-up pink.

I had mine done pink. I picked the nearest colour I liked and the decorator toned it down with white until it reached the shade I liked. It was a dulux trade.

How about dusted fondant?

Thanks I've just done some research and I like setting room plaster and pink ground. They look similar but pink ground is paler.

Nancy's blushes is too bubblegum pink for me!

I always appear on these threads recommending Farrow and Ball's Slipper Satin.

(Well actually I get Johnson's paint made up in that shade because I'm not made of money!)

It's beautiful. If you can get a small sample of it, paint a few sheets of A4 paper and blu-tac them to different walls in the room so you can see how it goes in different lights.

We pink fondant by dulux.its perfect

jackiebenimble · 07/12/2021 16:08

I have just painted 12/13 swatches on my wall to find the perfect pink. Its all a nightmare! I have found it though. Ill share a photo of my patchwork pink wall shortly.

Agree with Setting Plaster. Also try Lick paint for a couple of really nice ones - think it might be pink 3 and 1.

hotmeatymilk · 07/12/2021 18:18

One thing to note with pink is it’s one of the colours that bounces back on itself and appears deeper in tone in corners, so do your swatch not only on a main wall but in a prominent corner to see how that affects it

We're about to paint our bedroom in Sulking Room Pink which I think is a beautiful shade of grown up pink.

Slipper satin is definitely not pink!!!

I did the kitchen in Little Greene China Clay which is a very pale pink but they have different depths

TawdryBrush · 08/12/2021 15:16

So we've bought some testers and DH doesn't like setting plaster (bottom right) or pink ground (top right). It does look very peach when lights are on, but nicer in natural light.

He prefers one called great white which is the palest one on the picture and is more a cold white with grey and pinkish undertones.

It's difficult to judge as it's so dark today so not much natural light in the room for once!

We also tried peignoir and calamine and a dulux one called pink blush. These are not official f&b testers btw as too expensive, but colour matches.

Threadneedle by mylands? Saw it on the “mad about the house” blog, she’s painted her bedroom in it and describes it as a barely there pink

TawdryBrush · 08/12/2021 16:09

Threadneedle looks very similar to blush pink which is top left in my photo. Sorry I cut most of it out because I was trying to avoid my shadow ending up in the pic!

Elle by Crown do a lovely pale pink - grey tones but not lilac. Called Stitch in Time. It's in our dining room and I absolutely love it, get loads of compliments too. Very grown up.

SirSamuelVimes · 08/12/2021 16:33

Yes that's it. It does look very pale, almost white in a small quantity but over a full room you get the pink, if that makes sense!

PyjamaMamma · 08/12/2021 17:52

Pink 2 by Lick is light pink with yellowish undertones. DD has requested it and we had it colour matched by Valspar. Not on the wall yet but can come back with updates on the weekend Smile

TawdryBrush · 08/12/2021 18:34

Looking online I love pink 2 but I think it will be rejected by DH for the same reasons as setting plaster - he thinks it looks too dark and overwhelming in our room (as well as looking v peach under unnatural light). I think pink 1 might be a contender though, I may send DH out now to get a colour matched tester for that.

I have a pinky beige & I love it

hygtt · 08/12/2021 18:37

I'm scared it's the new grey though!

JuneOsborne · 08/12/2021 18:41

I wanted sulking room pink for the living room but was vetoed. Think I'm going for it in the front room though.

I do think pink will be the next grey, so get in early.

Top tip. Paint bigger swatches to really get a feel for the colours.

TawdryBrush · 08/12/2021 18:53

@JuneOsborne I did that with pink ground to try and convince DH but it had the opposite effect!
