Anyone cut down an IKEA Kallax? Or found good alternative?

I really need a 3x2 white Kallax but it doesn’t exist.

If I put a 2x2 and a 1x2 together, it’ll be about 4cm too long for the space. So that’s out of the question.

I’m thinking of cutting down a 2x4 but am worried about chipping the white coating and ending up with an awful finish.

I’ve had a quick look around for an alternative but they’re all coming up a bit short on the width.

Space is 116cm wide and 79cm high.

Try other shops. Argos/ homebase / B&Q www.homebase.co.uk/clever-cube-3x2-storage-unit-sanoma-oak/12888645.html 3x2 not in white but easier than trying to cut the Ikea one?

CakeMonster100 I’ve seen that one which is perfect apart from the colour . We already have a white Kallax so really need white

If you buy a 2 x 2 and a 3 x 3 Kallax you can reconfigure the pieces to produce two 3 x 2 units if that helps?

Alternatively a 3 x 4 unit and a 2 x 2 unit would work?

SplodgeWaddler · 28/11/2021 14:16

Eyerollsausageroll The 3x3 Kaplan isn’t made anymore. Was thinking about 3x4 and 2x2 but wasn’t sure if it’d work.

CakeMonster100 I’ve just spotted Argos do a bigger one which’ll be perfect - Homebase one is way cheaper though!

We cut one down and it was fine. Put masking tape over the bit you are cutting to protect the veneer.

Have you had a look at the Eket system in Ikea? You can build it up cube by cube or in pairs.

Thanks everyone. I knew MN wouldn’t disappoint 😃. I’ve ordered the larger Argos/habitat one. It’s a bit pricier than I would have liked but I have so many DIY projects that need finishing so figured it’d just be easier to buy one that fits. Plus I got half price storage boxes to go with it.

Plus I can collect it locally. I have to say though, the Argos website is so confusing and you have to really hunt for basic info like dimensions which should be in the title really. It’ll be interesting to see what the quality is like 🤔
