How to get pretty windows , and privacy on a main road at night ....

We used to live not at all overlooked. My fave way to dress windows was fairy lights all round them , curtians open with the city lights below , and a vase and plants .
We now live in an amazing area and the only house we could afford was one with both windows of the living room and the kitchen both facing a main road.

I just dont have a clue how to dress the windows or how to get any privacy , especially when its dark.
Have always used window sills amd windows as a focal point so this is new to me.
I dont like the look of shut curtains at all. Id sort of rather leave them open visually as i like how they frame a window but dont like them.when shut.
Any ideas?
Blind inside window? Just let the world look in . I cant grow big plants outside window it wd be too dark .
Help please?????!!

You can get privacy films that you apply to the glass.

Or get some a sheer blind or curtain, doesn't have to be voile, muslin is a good alternative.

Curtains would be best, for privacy and for keeping in your heat. What is it about curtains that you don't like? Could you consider some different print, pattern or colour to make your curtains into a feature?

Oh sorry I missed the bit about wanting privacy solutions for when it's dark so my suggestions were just for daylight.

If you like to frame the window with curtains but leave them open the I'd choose a blind & curtains so you only close the blind.

Or go for the posh window pelmets and blind combo.

The Dutch, who seem to have large open rooms and kitchens at the front of their houses, either frost the bottom of their windows or use bottom up blinds.

Venetian blinds with plants on the windowsill works well - you can tilt them at an angle so you can still see out a bit but people on the outside can’t really see in.
