Mismatched sofas?

We have a three seater and two seater tan leather suite. The three seater is worn and needs replacing, whilst the two seater is barely used!

Rather than buy a whole new set would it look ok to get a contrasting sofa instead? Am thinking maybe a navy blue scandi style one. It’s a mid 90s house so no period features that I think often you see with the mismatched look!

They will be quite close together as it’s not a huge room but could tie them in with similar shade throw/cushions.

Photo of existing sofa attached and the navy one to show the style I am thinking to go with it.

Any thoughts appreciated!

I love mismatched sofas

Yes, completely fine, tan and blue is a nice combination, go for it. I'm not really a fan of matching sofas anyway to be honest, unless in a very formal set-up,

ChequerBoard · 23/11/2021 21:23

Definitely, mismatched is better, more contrast, more interesting.

I have one tan leather sofa and one oatmeal linen sofa. They go together well and I can change things up with different throws and mixtures of cushions.

Not matching will look nice. Only thing is, would it look better if the blue sofa was a similar “weightines” as the tan one? Tan one is quite hefty, blue is raised up on thinner legs so looks more delicate - completely different style.

We have a velvet blue and fabric brown and a leather brown Love it.

Thanks all. Can I see some photos of your mismatched rooms?!

Saz12 I get what you mean about the weightiness but not keen on a fabric one in the same style. Will keep looking though!

I think you could choose from lots of different styles and weights if you went for a berry colour. Sort of a deep raspberry. I searched for berry sofa and got lots of different types.

Put a berry colour cushion on the tan and a contrasting cushion that compliments the wall colour on the berry sofa. That sort of thing.

I have mismatches sofas (and prefer it that way) but they're two different colours from the same range (duck egg and oatmeal, it was 2010... The era of duck egg everything). As pp mention the weight and style is similar (though one is a 2 seater and the other a 3 seater).

SmallProvincial · 26/11/2021 08:22

Lies... (Or rather typos) it was 2014... Not that it matters.

Currently have a teal one and a grey one. Grey one is knackered (and has biro scribbles on) and looking to replace it, possibly with leather. We've always had 2 sofas and always mismatched ones.

Estate agent's photo of said sofas in our old house. Although what I mostly notice about this photo now is the changing mat just visible under the grey one which is annoying!

They look lovely.

Have seen this one that is more similar in weightiness to the tan one so may work. I need to get some fabric samples!
