Sofabed recommendations

Help!

Please can anyone recommend a very good quality sofabed that is actually comfortable as a bed and a sofa. Happy to spend more for something long-lasting.

Can't seem to find one that works for both. So far I've tested some in Sofa.com and just didn't find the bed part that comfy.

We don't have a spare room, and have a little baby so a spare bed is fairly essential for us and for family to visit.

Thank you

TBH I don't think this thing exists.

It's been on my mind recently as I bought one a long time ago and I really regret it. I know this is not your issue because you don't have a spare room and mine was for a spare room. With hindsight I really regret that I didn't buy a bed.

I got a sofa bed because I thought it would rarely be used as a bed and it would mean I had a small box room I could use as a second lounge.

I got something similar to this but not this. It looks absolutely beautiful - covered in a deep blue but is hellishly uncomfortable as a bed.

I think you have to accept that a sofa bed is never going to be that great as a bed. Definitely prioritise the comfort of the sofa over the bed because that will be its main use.

If you also are going to be needing it regularly for yourselves -eg one to be away from the baby - then maybe look at this type of thing

not this exactly because of the bad but you can get similar designs that are closer to true day beds with sofa cushions because the bed is an actual bed.

This may not work for you though as it won't be as comfortable as a sofa.

If you want a sofa bed, I've slept on a fore-runner of this type of product - where the bed pulls out on a metal frame that stands off the ground- and was able to sleep quite comfortably.

I think it was an Ikea product but bought years ago so not sure how the current one compares.

If in your quest you find a good one, let me know as it's a holy grail product!

Murphy or wall beds are a good compromise if you don't need the sofa. Some have a desk facility such as the Studybeds

If you’ve plenty of space then you have scope to buy one with a proper, double-bed sized mattress which also has proper sofa arms (ie padded). That does help comfort levels of both bed and sofa.

I’ve never found a great one, but Willow& Hall were recommended to me by a few people.

I have a Farlov from IKEA. Comfy as a sofa, and reasonable enough as a bed - much thicker mattress than on some and I’m certainly happy sleeping on it. I’d definitely recommend it.

We bought ours from Alston 19 years ago and would recommend it. The bed part isn't so comfortable now (the straps need tightening and the mattress is a bit thinner than it used to be so we put a duvet on top when we use it now) but the sofas are still great.

Sorry - Alstons

We have one that was second hand from a family friend but I know it was from John Lewis originally. It is our main sofa and also a comfy sofa bed. We are redecorating at the mo and tempted to change it but like you I can't seem to find a good alternative. We do have a spare room atm but have 2 young dc sharing one room so at some point we will probably need to have one of them in the spare room, so like you we do kinda need to have a sofa bed really. So annoying! Following with interest
