Where to put sofas and TV?

Does anyone have any bright ideas about where to put the TV in my living room?

The plan is a bit wrong because there is a fireplace but it's recessed in the wall and the mantlepiece is very high - too high for a TV.

I never feel I've got it right but curious how others would lay it out

I’ve drawn on your plan. As you look at it I would put sofa along left hand wall, chair by the double doors at the back of the lounge and the tv in the bottom right corner.

I’m not a fan on tvs on the wall. They always seem to look too high and you’d crick your neck watching them. Lovely house by the way.

You should see what I've done..I have the exact same living room layout as yours. Mounted on a wall bracket that extends and tilts. The bracket was £150 alone. Well worth it. What do you think? :)

My TV is just a little above eye level when sitting down.

Also my bracket tilts right in the corner and pulls out. When we finish with it, we bring it back into the wall. Hope that helps.

It's really lovely - but you've got the sofa where I have doors into the conservatory. And recesses where my wall is level with the fireplace.
But the tilting bracket is something to think about.

Not sure if you need it but would you be able to fit two sofa chairs or club chairs where your doors are into conservatory to get more seating in? Are sliding doors an option?

Where did you get you bracket from?
CookieDoughKid · 23/11/2021 17:59

Bought from Curry's! It cost around £120 and it was a white one.

Thanks! I'm seriously considering one when I move my sofa around...

I'd put it in the sitting room, unless you think you'll never use your living room without a tv in it.

isitbedtimeplease · 25/11/2021 15:13

I'm confused by the interchangeable rooms? What's the difference between snug, sitting room and lounge??

HoldmecloseTonyDanza · 25/11/2021 15:21

@CookieDoughKid I love the colour on your recess wall/ unit either side of the fireplace- do you mind me asking what it is?

@PicaK sorry for hijacking! For your layout I'd put chair in the bay window, sofa asking the wall and tv near the double doors but without restricting access. Not sure if measurements, but if possible that's what I'd do.

Sofa along the wall...

longtompot · 25/11/2021 18:54

@CookieDoughKid your room is pretty much the same as mine, even down to the dark blue alcoves! I've even got a similar shaped lampshade, though mine is shells. Where did yours come from as it's gorgeous?
We also have a wall bracket for our tv which was about £80 I think, but we did buy it a few years ago. It came from Amazon and is black.

CookieDoughKid · 25/11/2021 20:15

HoldmecloseTonyDanza the blue paint is by Craig and Rose, the most luscious thick creamy paint. It's called Payne's Gray but it's anything but grey. This is the gloss version but I'd say it's a gentle gloss, not shiny. And pp asking about lampshade, is from Reynold Dowling in Leeds. It is Alexa controlled lightbulbs so I managed to bring in modern tech in my Victorian house 🏡😄

HoldmecloseTonyDanza · 25/11/2021 23:06

Thanks Cookie I can't see grey at all, looks navy to me - I love it.

My grandparents have the same house/mirror image of yours OP and they did what @Itsjustrenee suggested. Worked for them for at least 30 years...
