Carpet colour for busy lounge

Just moved to a new house, had carpets cleaned but they will need replacing in The lounge. It's a high traffic area (you have to walk through it to get to the stairs, kitchen and conservatory) plus it's about 29ft long so I want something hard-wearing but will look nice with taupe walls and a greeny blue sofa and chairs and walnut wooden furniture. Pic attached from old house to give you idea, where we had dark wood floors, but this new house does not benefit from a Victorian ceiling height so concerned a dark brown carpet might be too dark, make a long room look narrow (it's not, it's about 13ft wide)? 🤔 Any suggestions? Cheers

Perhaps a raspberry pink? I had a flat carpeted In this and it was great, warm, didn’t suck the light in, didn’t show marks, red wine stains…
I’m not sure what the current fashions are for carpets, it was all very beige and neutral when I last looked… years ago…

We put a blue carpet down and it's been brilliant at hiding all sorts of stains from young children and spillages etc.

Carpets are disgusting! 🤮 Go for hard floor instead! 😀

thanks everyone....

@LaCerbiatta I kind of agree but after 17 years of it in our other house DH is adamant its carpet for the lounge [hmmm]

Missing point of thread entirely OP but that checked rug is gorgeous! Reminds me of Elmer the Elephant Grin

Whatever carpet you buy will be ruined with through traffic. Tell your husband that wood will cope better. You can buy a large rug and replace it when it's beyond cleaning.
