Has anyone used privacy film on windows?

DD loved her big picture window when she was little, but now doesn’t like the idea of people looking in on her.

Has anyone successfully used the film you apply to windows to let you see out but not see in?

Yes, you just have to take your time.

Monsterpumpkins · 23/10/2021 17:57

Ds has a white one in his windows... Passage has a stained glass effect one. Both from Wilko. Use the tool that comes with it!!

mamakoukla · 23/10/2021 17:58

Yes and happy with the result (bathroom window). Clean glass well and take your time

DorotheaDiamond · 23/10/2021 18:07

Yes - on lots of different windows . We use Purlfrost - easy to apply just measure carefully first. Loads of different patterns available.

Your other option could be a blind that comes up from the bottom (no idea what that is called) - we had one of those and it was brilliant - windows covered when needed without totally blocking all the light!

Can you still see out with the window film?
I thought you couldn't which has always put me off using it

Winecheesesleep · 23/10/2021 18:33

We used this company:

www.windowfilm.co.uk/

Found it really easy to apply and happy with the results.

Snooper22 · 23/10/2021 18:35

Yes from Amazon really good 👍

mommybear1 · 23/10/2021 18:50

Yes it was brilliant.

Hadjab · 23/10/2021 21:19

I have on my front windows - I’ve cut squares out for a little extra vision

Ignore the dirty windows - this was in the middle of building work 🤣

KingscoteStaff · 23/10/2021 21:52

@Winecheesesleep Can you see out with the window film?

OP posts:
Winecheesesleep · 24/10/2021 18:36

@KingscoteStaff not with the type I have, it's opaque with small diamonds cut out. We only have it on the bottom half of the windows so there is still plenty of light coming through.

DeadButDelicious · 24/10/2021 18:41

We live in a terrace so have some frosted stuff on the lower portion of our front window to stop people staring in as they walk past, we can't see out of it but we don't mind. We like it, the cat isn't so keen, she likes a nosey! You just need to take your time and be careful measuring when cutting to size.

tunainatin · 24/10/2021 18:47

We have the one that looks like a mirror on the outside, but you can see out of. It's great, you lose a bit of light but worth it if you want to keep your view, which we did.

tunainatin · 24/10/2021 18:48

I tried frosted on my kitchen window but I felt it made the room seem smaller.

PinkStink · 24/10/2021 18:50

We have it for privacy. No you can't see out of it. We just did the bottom half.

KingscoteStaff · 24/10/2021 20:35

@tunainatin Was yours from windowfilm.co?

Just used some this weekend in a downstairs loo. I really like it. Very easy to apply (if you cut the measurements correctly 🥴)

Yes we have the mirrored film on our downstairs window, it's really effective during the day. It does take heat out of the sunlight coming in too which is good in Summer. Just don't forget in the evenings when the light is on that you can then see into the room.

emanresua · 26/10/2021 15:26

Got a lovely one on DD room which reflects rainbows into the room. From Amazon, brand called rabbitgoo.

I've had good results with a patterned one from here - requires a bit of patience to fit, and accurate measuring, but looks good. You cant see out the one we chose, but it lets a lot of light in. They also send tester squares so you can stick them up and see which would be best.

I bought mine from here.

Very good service and delivery. We live in a terraced house and it stops people looking in without keeping the light out.

The one we have is William Morris 'Rosehip'
