White coat first?

I currently have a mint/teal/blue kind of colour walls in a bedroom. I want to paint it a light grey. Should I do a coat of white first then put they grey on or will a couple of coats of the grey cover the blue ok?

If it's a deep/dark colour, I usually do a first coat (or 2) of white, as it is usually more expensive to do several layers of your chosen colour.

How deep is the blue? If it’s fairly deep I’d put a white or neutral base layer on. The grey might be enough though - it depends on the contrast between the shades
