conservatory seating ideas

Hi everyone,

Due to move into a new house and it has a conservatory that we want to use as an extension of the lounge, so wanting comfy seating etc, somewhere to chill out, read a book etc. The problem is it has patio doors opening out into the garden, double sliding doors from the dining kitchen and french doors (opening inwards) from the lounge - so there's only really one side of it we can use for seating - see pic attached - dimensions are 4.40m long by 2.90m wide but it also has a slight curve towards the door.

I really don't want rattan furniture as it doesn't look comfy, does anyone have any ideas how to furnish it - should we get a 4 seater sofa to fill the space or 2 cuddle type chairs?? Anyone have anything similar they can share photos for inspiration Smile

Wheres the best view from it?

I initially thought two armchairs facing towards the angled window at the top left, with a footstool between, so you can sit and look out. But no good if that looks onto a fence.

Do you have small kids? If so it would make a great playroom!

thanks bernadette so the whole of the left hand side following around to the door onto the garden is windows, so you pretty much are looking out onto greenery. I guess it was more a case of how to get the best seating with all of the doors in the way as a 4 seater sofa would just give a view of the dining kitchen sliding doors Grin

I like the idea of armchairs but DH keeps mentioning a sofa but I can't see how it would work Hmm maybe it'll be easier to work out once we are in and living there.... cheers

Then in that case (if it were me), I'd want the view of the garden. Two armchairs dancing the angled corner with a little table or foot stool in between.

Bottom right corner a bookcase

Bottom left corner, selection of rotten leafy plants.

Excuse the hideous drawing!

Hahaha whoops! I meant potted

Though......《takes a sweeping look at the corpses of plants gone by sitting around me》

Maybe swivel armchairs, easy to face different ways.

Good idea mosaic that could work 😁

Sofas do not have to go against the wall or even close.. look at placing it just about the middle looking to the best view….you can then place bookcase, occasional table or desk or whatever else along the wall and you navigate the room walking around the perimeter so to speak keeping all the doorways clear.
Draw floor plan to scale, cut to scale shapes to represent your existing furniture and a new sofa then place in different positions till it works
I’d go with a plain cheapish sofa - great for lying out on in the sun on cold but sunny days. Don’t buy strong colours as it will fade in strong sunlight.
You will find that if conservatory has glass, or worse polycarbonate roof you have heat problems in winter and summer, so save your money for solving that.

I would be inclined to ignore the door into the dining room so put chairs in front of it. I would put 2-3 armchairs in there with side tables - they can be more easily moved around if need be.

Dartfordwarblerautumn · 10/10/2021 18:13

Or even place at angle facing 10 to 11 on your plan

I'd probably have 2 small sofas facing eachother and a coffee table in the middle with room to walk around the edges. You know like sitting rooms used to have before everyone started pointing everything at the telly.

heregoes74 · 10/10/2021 18:24

Some great suggestions, thank you.

I've realised I can keep one side of the doors from the lounge closed so that gives me the back corner of the space free, plus as you say bulldog I could ignore most of the sliding door into the dining room. Like the idea of sofas facing each other too.... 🤔 Ooh so many possibilities now 😁

I’d go for a couple of large snuggle chairs. I’ve got two in my conservatory - my favourite place to sit when it’s chucking it down with rain, love feeling curled up with the sound of rain on the roof.

heregoes74 · 11/10/2021 08:52

@furries can you post a photo so I can visualise?? Smile

The chairs are very similar to this. There is room for more furniture, but conservatory is also the dog’s bedroom - she’s a giant breed, so her crate takes up a large chunk of the room!

ooh they are lovely @furries, are they comfortable?

@heregoes74 - yes, really comfy, I love curling up in them with a throw and a good book!

Mine are from Next and are about 8 years old now - these were the closest I could find, they are very very similar.
