Original Artwork wanted - artists I should consider?

For our 50th birthdays my DH and I would like to get a piece of original artwork for our home.

So, my question is - any ideas of artists that I could look at? Or how to find stuff?

I really like this, but it comes from a very quick google search and perhaps there is more interesting stuff out there.

If anyone has any ideas of where to look, then that would be fab.

It so depends on what you like! I love this one in London because it exhibits Steven Mackay which are very quirky but lots of other lovely pieces and a range of artists too

Frieze and the Affordable Art Fair are coming up over the next few weeks, if you are near London. Even if you can't go, you can use the gallery listings as a starting place to search.

I’d steer clear of the chain galleries as they tend not to offer good value or carry genuinely good artists. Find some local galleries and see what you like. You could also check out sites like Artsy, where you can click on things you like and it will suggest other things that are similar. Also, depending on where you are based, you might have a gallery that supports local artists.

I’ve had particularly good experiences with Linden Hall in Deal and Castlegate House in Cockermouth.

You definitely need to see a piece in the flesh rather than just online, especially at those sorts of prices. Look for independent art galleries near you. If there are any art schools near then you could look at their degree shows.
