Fish tank ideas

Hi everyone,

DH and I have just bought a house. On the wall between the hallway and kitchen there is a fish tank built into the wall so you can see through to the kitchen. The vendors left a couple of fish (probably accidentally) and all of the fish food.

I don't love it and, if I'm totally honest with myself, I'm a bit lazy so it is likely to not get cleaned often enough. I want to put the remaining fish in a small tank that is easily cleaned.

I'm not sure what to do with the unusued built in fish tank though. I don't want to have essentially just a window in the wall between the hallway and kitchen.

I was thinking about a terrarium (and easy to maintin cacti) but I'm a bit worried that as there's a lid on top of the fish tank that there wouldn't be enough air inside for plants.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to make this space a bit more interesting in a low maintenance way? Any suggestions gratefully received!

You could keep it as a tank, plant with water plants, add bog wood etc, but just don’t have fish?

There would be enough air for plants - fish also need air dissolved in the water.
