I'm thinking of having my kitchen units resprayed a matt grey and having a freestanding island made. My worktops are black granite with hints of blue/green. I'm thinking of an oak top for the island and having the island units either a sagey green or duck egg blue - to pick out the colour in the granite. What do people think? Will it work? Does anyone else have different worktops/colours going on?

I’m not sure I would want different colour units and different colour worktops? But that could be my taste. It depends what size the kitchen is? I imagine if it feels very spacious this would work but otherwise it could feel like a lot of things going on in a small kitchen?

I think the green or the blue cabinets for the island sound dreamy! I’ve just decided to re-paint my worktops and I’m going for a deep green lower run and a brighter white top run of units so I’m all for two colours in that sense.

As pp says, keep the worktops the same, units different colour, otherwise you've got too much going on.

The bulk of our units are a stormy green/blue, with one off-white wall cabinet and a duckegg(ish) freestanding larder unit!

Good advice, thanks. I'm thinking about sticking with the different worktops as I really want oak on the island, but keeping all the units including the island the same.
I appreciate your feedback!
