How to paint with different ceiling heights and posts

We have just had our new kitchen fitted, tiling done and now need to paint - I thought after all disruption and decision-making this would be the easy bit - rookie mistake!

We have a small (4mx4m) kitchen but it has good light - two big windows and French doors.

What we can't decide on is "how" to paint walls and ceiling.

The kitchen has a lowered ceiling nearer the French doors - this has created a sharp step down from ceing - so two levels. To add to this we also have two posts (plastered in) which run up to this lowered ceiling.

It's hard to explain - but do we paint all in one colour? Use different hues? Go for white ceiling that throughout?

The new kitchen is light blue - so ideally want a darker wall colour to contrast but not sure if lower ceiling will take.

Anyone know if there is a "guide" to how to do this?

Thanks in advance

I happened to catch this morning recently (I was off work) & interior designer Kelly hoppen was on doing advice. Someone phoned in & they showed a photo & it was different levels/angles and she said to paint each one a slightly different shade of a neutral colour. It made perfect sense.

She was actually amazing the advice she gave for each picture shown, I’d love her to come and sort my place out!

I’ve googled but I can’t find the recent video of her on this morning.
