Living room paint to compliment aubergine sofas

Hi,

Really struggling to find something and fear I'm over complicating the whole thing.

Our living room is large (5*4m) but only has 2 small windows so is quite dark. We have a silvery grey carpet and aubergine sofas. I've hopefully attached a photo.

We also have a dado rail right round the room.

The previous owners had painted it a dark brown (although they dado rail was white) and we moved in we knew we wanted it to be lighter. We tried off-white which is what we had in our last place but it just looked dirty as the room is so dark.

So then we tried jasmine shimmer from dulux light and shimmer range and I hate it. It's so pink and looks like a little girls bedroom.

Husband is coming around to the idea of two colours (different above and below dado) so wondering if anyone has any suggestions??

I would say a pale pink - there's more than the one you've tried already. Or a light green?

I like green with aubergine. I had green kitchen cupboards and aubergine blinds. Looked good if I say so myself.

Another vote for green! I’d personally go for a sage green with those sofa colours.

Colours from these Hue Family combinations work well with Red-Purple colours.

Vardo from Farrow and Ball would look amazing.

Is go for something neutral and then add other colours like green using soft furnishings and artwork m.

A beige/cashmere colour like Dulux Heritage Romney Wool would look lovely with those aubergine sofas.

I know because I have just painted by annexe that colour and nearly ordered aubergine sofas but went for dark teal green instead. The aubergine swatches looked good with the paint colour though!

I’ve just had a very pleasant 5 minutes on Instagram searching for “aubergine sofa” and found that the best colour ways have a lot of cream on the walls.

Another vote for green here. I admit I'm not one for light colours/beiges, and am all for embracing the dark, lol! But at a previous house we painted the living room walls F&B Brinjal (a very dark aubergine) and it went brilliantly with our olive green antique sofa as well as our other - cream - sofa 😉

In our current (small windowed/dark) living room we have olive green walls, the same sofas, mustard curtains and lots of aubergine accessories. Our rug picks up all those colours.....

Olive green would go nicely.

We have farrow and ball studio green in our lounge which has a large aubergine chair. Quite dark and bold, but we like it

I've just painted my living room in the colour on the attached picture. This is not my living room but something I spotted on Instagram. It's the colour code on the second picture.
I've got aubergine sofa and armchair and it looks really good. If I hadn't seen the picture on Instagram I would never have been brave enough to choose it.

How about mustard? Would go with both the sofa and the carpet

My walls are very pale lilac/Heather colour with silver grey carpet, although my sofa is not a single-colour.

Now going to read the thread properly as I fancy a change but like my sofas.

Perfectly taupe - Dulux. Its kind of grey. Safe bet.
