Best way to keep light out of bedroom?

I still have 'temporary' curtains on a pole that I got from the Homebase sale section 8 years' ago for about £8. Been meaning to get something since but undecided what to get. I want the room as dark as possible and love the European shutters that close from the outlet side (either automatic or manual) but they don't seem to do anything like that in the UK. Will plantation shutters block out the light? It is quite a small window 70cm height x 90 cm width. What is the best way to keep out the light?

Black out blinds or curtains. Plantation shutters won't cut it

I agree with PP, plantation blinds are useless for cutting out light, we stayed in a holiday cottage with those and no curtain, we woke up at the creak of dawn each morning! Buy black out curtains. They work well. Or it you are looking for a cheaper option, buy black out linings to use with your existing curtains.

We have black out roller blinds then blackout curtains hung in front of them.

The room is lovely and dark! Grin

I have the same - pitch dark!

You can get cassette blinds that completely block out light like Bloc blinds. The sides have their own track that means no light from the sides or from the top when you fit the cassette. There are other companies that do similar but that is the one I can think of off the top of my head.

We have the original white horizontal Venetians as our room is south facing so we need to control the light. We also have a blackout blind in front of the Venetian blind and we have blackout curtains. Result is almost a total pitch black room. It is incredibly dark.

We have BlocOut blinds which have tracks at the side to stop light getting in. They are a lot more expensive than regular black out blinds but if you don't want light at the edges they are great! DH measured up, we ordered from the internet and then fitted ourselves. It was very easy. With a small window, they click in place from what I recall.

Black out roller and black our curtains, it's pitch black 🤣

blackout roller blinds + a decorative curtain should do it.
