Looking for a bed I don't have to build

Trying to buy son a new bed at the moment. I really hate self-assembly and I don't want two giant boxes of Meccano. I had to assemble other son's hi sleeper with one tiny Allan key, and it was a nightmare.

Can anyone recommend a company that will deliver a reasonably priced single bed with minimal assembly required? Sleigh bed, wood frame, ottoman, anything, I don't want a fabric divan btw.

Hi OP, not quite answering your question but I recommend getting a handyman in. I'm hopeless at fixing stuff and now get a local handyman to come in every few months, by which time I've got a list of things for him to do. My personal breaking point was a high sleeper cabin bed with pull out seat and matching cabinet. I did it but oh the stress! Things are much better now. Grin

John Lewis or Marks and Spencer?

Igmum · 26/08/2021 15:27

John Lewis just dump a meccano set on you. M&S used to assemble things for you but not sure if they still do

screechyowl · 26/08/2021 15:41

Thank u. I was just thinking of Harvey Norman, do they do fully-assembleds? I am just so damn tired of having to build everything from kitchen tables to garden seats to lawnmowers. 🙄

Get a handyperson to do the assembly.

BareVanilla · 26/08/2021 15:44

I got my sons whole bedroom set from Marks. They came they delivered and it was set up perfectly. They took cardboard and plastic away.

elaeocarpus · 26/08/2021 15:50

How would you get a fully assembled bed through the door?
Think best hope is
-something with minimal assembly ( you don't want an ottoman! the hydraulic lifts)
-a build service

  • paid friend or handy person

The easiest beds I've put together are simple wooden ones with slat bases.

screechyowl · 26/08/2021 15:53

Maybe my memory is deceiving me, but does anyone recall their mum or dad saying, 'oh, we're having a new bed/sideboard/ desk delivered today,' and a couple of burly blokes carrying it from a van to the house. Where did those companies ever go?!

I know you said you didn't want it, but a divan doesnt require assembly.
Our metal framed bed had less assembly than the wooden ones, but honestly, divan is the minimal assembly option - our king was 2 screws, DS single was 0 screws, until we wanted a headboard, at which point 2 screws were involved.

Unfortunately my cats view divan beds as supersized luxury scratch-posts...

@screechyowl
I bought an ottoman bed from dreams and the 2 workmen assembled it in my room.
Bought one for my DD from bensons for beds, they didn’t assemble it just left 2 boxes.
I used Task Rabbit to book someone to come and put it together. The taskers range in price and you can see if they’re recommended and read reviews. I’ve only recently heard of them. Don’t think they’re everywhere.

Ohthepressure · 27/08/2021 00:48

If you're in Oz (you mentioned Harvey Norman) then Bedshed deliver and assemble, you add the cost on to the item. www.bedshed.com.au/customer-service/help-and-faqs
I'm sure the others will do similar.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 27/08/2021 00:54

It was pre covid but Dreams (bunkbeds) & Furniture village (bed & wardrobe) have both assembled for me at home.
Having spent the last 2 months deciding on new lounge furniture and 100% decided I was buying assembled i copped put and went cheap and cheerful ikea. I've spent the last 4hrs building the bloody stuff so definitely worth it!

stepleftorright · 27/08/2021 00:59

John Lewis will assemble for £29 link

ATowelAndAPotato · 27/08/2021 01:06

Cotswold company? If it’s not already assembled, they will do it for you (poss small fee)

NotwatchingSpooks · 27/08/2021 21:18

Warren evans deliver and assemble

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/08/2021 21:23

M&S assemble stuff. Got a wardrobe from them recently and am delighted with it. They assemble and take all the packaging away.

screechyowl · 28/08/2021 07:37

That's a possibility, M&S, take it their delivery people are allowed inside your house again? (which has been another problem).

Mu parents have just got a bed from a local bed shop... they are delivering, assembling and taking away the old bed (including mattress!)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/08/2021 09:18

Yes to M&S allowing it again.

AchingLimbs · 28/08/2021 09:20

I used Wayfair once!

GrandmasCat · 28/08/2021 09:23

Of course you can still get beds that come already assembled, they also come with a hefty price tag. Much cheaper to buy the bed you want and pay a handyman to build it for you.

Ikea does have their own list of handymen you can use but you can also find a lot of people in local magazines.

People wanted things cheaper, which meant things came flat packed. You can still buy pre built stuff, you just pay more for it
excelledyourself · 28/08/2021 18:37

Next have an assembly service on some of their furniture. £30 per item I think.
