Is there such a thing as a comfortable sofa bed?

We are doing a loft conversion, mainly to use the loft as a playroom but we also want to put a sofa bed in there that would be sufficiently comfortable that my parents who are in their 70s could sleep on it when they visit. Can anyone recommend one that is genuinely comfortable to sleep on?! Happy to consider trundle beds too, if they still exist other than for children's rooms.

Hi! We have this sofa from DFS www.dfs.co.uk/freya/fye63kfry?skuId=4595922&&origin=Fabric_Sofa_Beds

It is quite comfy to seat down. I tested the bed part when it arrived and it was quite comfy!

We have this in our spare room - not a sofa bed but a trundle bed. It’s a small single, and when you bring the bottom half out it fits exactly next to the top half so it can be zipped up to be a king size double. Proper mattresses and proper comfy support and height to sleep on. We got it specifically because our most frequent guests are older parents / PIL.
Because it’s quite narrow when not extended out, it’s neat in the room and would be a good pseudo sofa for kids to lounge around on. Would def recommend it.

We have something very similar to this www.dfs.co.uk/velocity/vlo1zeucc?skuId=2746548&

We spent time lying down on the sofa bed in store (and ignoring all the looks!) The mattress is a proper one and very comfortable. Also when using as a sofa, you can't tell that there's a bed inside.

We've got the IKEA Friheten and can't fault it.

Made.com do lots of sofa beds.

Had three and I’ve never had a single complaint of any of them.

Don't know if they still do them but the IKEA manstad sofa bed was good

My dsis has a corner one from Ikea it's the comfiest sofa bed I've slept on.

Our IKEA one is very comfortable as a sofa. Only one person has slept on the sofa bed and he said it was fine.

My parents put a memory foam mattress topper on their sofa bed to make it more comfortable.

Neither sofa nor trundle, but airbeds are surprisingly good these days. We have an amazonbasics one which is the height of a normal bed and very sturdy/comfy.

We have two ikea sofa beds, the Lycksele havas which we spent two weeks sleeping on while we decorated our bedroom and was perfectly comfy, but is not particularly comfy as a sofa, and we have a Farlov in our family room which is a super comfortable sofa and a very comfortable bed.

TheBitterBoy · 26/08/2021 14:29

Lycksele havas is improved with a memory foam topper for sure.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 27/08/2021 15:11

IKEA Lyksele are good and very comfy to sleep on if you go for a decent mattress, plus you actually do get a full size bed out of them (standard sofa beds tend to be very short). But, the back is very bulky when they are up as a sofa because of the way they fold, so I think they use a lot of unnecessary space.

Depending on your budget, Furl sofa beds are super comfy, actually as good as a 'real' bed - but they are £££.

Be warned, we have a playroom/spare room in our loft conversion and found we were massively restricted on sofas due to odd ceiling heights & angles going up the 2nd flight of stairs. In the end we couldn't find a conventional sofa that would fit up the stairs so went for a futon sofa bed and whilst we've not had many adult overnight guests, we found it very comfortable for the 1 night we slept on it and the Dc love it.

I have tried out several sofa beds lately, as we need one which will be the bed that guests stay in, including older parents.

We went with one from Love your home in the end. More than we expected to pay but it was the best one for levels of comfort as a bed and sofa. For a £100 extra you can upgrade the mattress. Thought that in bed mode it was very comfortable. Hopefully being delivered in October
