We are having a match charcoal kitchen like this, really liked the look of this is it copper maybe? Backboard in the showroom but definitely need one full height and fearful height might be a bit Bollywood! Also don’t really like the Metro tiles as they are a bit passé or those very busy tiles that people have had recently. But definitely need something to make it less monochrome. Maybe a glass backboard all help gratefully received!!

Matt charcoal. Not match!

I think that’s nice - was there a more “aged” looking version? That would be cooler. Aged copper look with a bit more texture. Back boards are cool. I know you said break up the monochrome but there are some very cool textured black backboards which look amazing with black cabinets. Go all in!

Sorry what's the question exactly? Do you want that backboard but aren't sure, or do you want opinions between backboard and tiles? If so have this seen any tiles you like? Colours?

Nice kitchen, but the backboard makes it look like a restaurant/commercial kitchen. I'd keep looking for tiles or maybe a coloured glass backboard.

Thank you all. I’m bloody hopeless !

We had tiles and moved to copper backboard. Would not go back to tiles. Much easier to clean the backboard. We have wood cabinets, but a grey concrete look worktop and it looks amazing. (The backboard was from Howdens).

That sounds gorgeous Blast, I have white tiles and they show every mark. And the grouting is a sod to keep clean.
OP would that be full height on a long run of wall, or just behind the hob, say? If you can introduce colour on another wall, then pick it up with other accessories you won't have that monochrome you are worried about. The copper brings a warmth anyway.

We have glass backboards and they are a pain, things fall behind them and the one behind the oven can't be removed. I'm going to change it for tiles soon.

Ours is fixed to the wall and goes up to top cabinet height (I think it's fixed like wet wall so fairly solid) so there is no risk of things going behind. The only place we don't have it is behind the cooker where we have changed to a stainless steel backsplash for heat protection.
