Fitted wardrobes

I feel like I am going insane.

I have a chimney breast in my bedroom and want fitted wardrobes in the recess, either side. And probably above bed storage too.

Local joiners aren't great at getting back to me, I know they are all really busy. Sharp wanted 5k just for the wardrobes (it's a small terrace) which just seemed outrageous.

Someone suggested IKEA do a style we can measure and fit as we need, but everytime I am on their site they say they aren't available for delivery or in store.

I am getting fairly desperate as all my and dps clothes are in the spare room, which is usually my office and I am currently sat on an ottoman, working because I don't have room for my office chair in my bedroom.

Its not a massive house and I just want to maximise space.

How do people usually go about getting fitted wardrobes? Use a big company and spend alot? Or can you negotiate down? Wait for a joiner? Wait for IKEA?

If I have to, I will spend the 5k. But, I would prefer not to. Any advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

We bought the Ikea Pax ones about a month or two ago and the whole wardrobes weren't available but we did manage to buy carcasses, innards and doors separately and got them all delivered as they are quite long. I didn't get the exact doors I wanted but did get a good alternative. We bought a deeper one for the recess and a shallow one for in front of the chimney breast and they ended up about level at the front

All building materials are in short supply currently. I believe IKEA are prioritising stock for shops ahead of online orders.

What a pain for you.

Can you adjust the width?

As non of the available pax appear to fit the gap we have.

I think I might be missing something when it comes to them and availability is so hit and miss

Ah really, o wasn't aware they were prioritising stores. Though that makes sense. Might be worth going in then.

4-5k are the quotes my friend got for similar. She went with a local joiner/carpenter in the end (because they were slightly cheaper than Sharps etc and she said she get better giving her money to an independent business.)

That's how I feel. I have contacted a local business that does bedrooms and kitchens, to come a do a quote. But they quoted me 10k for a new kitchen when mu kitchen is literally tiny. If 2 people stand in it, there's not enough room. Which is why i was reluctant to have them. But i am getting desperate.

I want to move in 4-5 years, which is why i am reluctant to spend so much on wardrobes. Not like i will get the money back when i sell.

Pax come in carcass widths of 50, 75 and 100cm so you have to use a combination of these for your gap, sliding doors only fit on combination of 150 and I think 2 metres units, we have sliding doors on a 1.5m unit made up of 2x75cm in one room, sliding doors not possible on less than 1.5m. In the other room we have 2x100cm ones not sitting quite together so have normal opening doors. There is a minimum height of ceiling needed for the very tall ones which are 236 high which you have to check carefully before buying especially if you have sliding doors, which need a bit more ceiling room for construction, it's on the Ikea website about ceiling clearance

You can check on the website if your local store has stock though I am not too sure how accurate it is
