By way of background, we moved into a house with awful carpets and have had to live with them for a decade due to young children and lack of cash. I have a new job now which means that we can finally afford replacements. However I am wracked by indecision due to the pressure of getting it wrong. We have a light grey hall and kitchen so grey carpets may be a bit OTT and would like something warm, but the beige carpets I have seen (all Cormar) look like they are from OAP homes. We have to have synthetic over wool due to carpet moth problem. Any inspiration would be gratefully received!!

We’ve recently replaced the carpets on the stairs, landings and all the bedrooms. It was a big expensive job and I was SO BLOODY stressed about getting it wrong!!

In the end we went for a wool mix in a sort of oatmeal colour with flecks in it. They had almost the identical carpet in 100% synthetic too. Exciting it is not but crucially it’s very neutral so we have totally different colours in the bedrooms / can easily change the colour of the hall, stairs and landings. I’d rather change the look of rooms with an easy coat of paint or pictures than with ££££ carpet.

It’s a very warm looking carpet that works well in our house. I will admit to yearning for a bright stripy one but I know that our less exciting one will work really well in our house.

Hope that helps!

Polyprop carpets are great for easy cleaning but they do have that shiny look to them..... and can look cheap if you're not careful.

I'd go for an 80/20 wool twist - most are moth resistant these days, you get great wear and it's more natural. And buy the best underlay you can afford.

Thank you, we are also doing the whole house and trying to find something which will match all rooms and stairs etc. Your carpet sounds lovely, would you mind sharing detail so I can look for inspiration x

Yes one of the samples does look a bit cheap and shiny! I googled moth resistant carpet and the general consensus was that the resistant cover wears off after time and I really can't risk spending thousands on new carpets for the moths to attack them again. Gutted as I prefer wood carpets Confused

We went for an oatmeal colour with a fleck too. The fleck makes it really forgiving. It is a proper oatmeal - I was conscious of not going too light and I’m happy that we haven’t. Some carpets are too pale for our household standards!

Thank you! Would you mind sharing brand and make - I have decision indecisiveness!

@blueshiningsea this is pretty much identical to it. When I get home tonight I’ll get a photo of ours and find the exact name / brand.
