Been married over 15 years have a houseful of stuff. Have £300 to spend at a London dept store from our wedding list (won’t go far I know)

OP posts:

Bedding and lamps.

NeverTalkToStrangers · 18/08/2021 17:49

Personally, a new rug and lampshade for front room, a Chromebook for me for basic web browsing and shopping, new pillows and towels and new baking trays.

Attractive ceiling light fittings? We’ve just bought a posh coffee grinder and couldn’t imagine life without it now. Or a modern coffee table. Posh cushions or throws for your sofa can drastically update things.

Art (but might not work if you are stuck to spending them in one shop)

SomethingToldTheWildGeese · 18/08/2021 18:20

I would put it towards - a new...
Printer /
Hoover /
Stand mixer (I like baking) /
Sage coffee machine /
Or some other big ticket item

Did you miss the £300 budget in a london department store bit 🤣🤣
Palavah · 18/08/2021 18:23

Really gorgous new bedding /towels

New side lamps (or shades) for the bedroom

A new dining table

Or
Carpet cleaning

NeverTalkToStrangers · 18/08/2021 18:25

No I wasn’t planning to get everything on my list with 300 quid AlmostSummer Smile - that’s just everything that’s on it at the mo.

AlmostSummer21 · 18/08/2021 18:43

I could easily spend £300 on some nice plates or cooking/serving dishes
OR
Bed Linen

Depending on which particular store and if I wanted it to be a 'wedding present' then possibly something between what I'd call
An ornament (shudder) and a 'piece of art'

😊 Just had a look at a couple of department stores...no 'art/ornaments I like'. I'd need to spend the £300 on a hotel for more shopping time 🤣
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/08/2021 19:04

Depends on the store.

A nice dinner set

A set of good saucepans and/or knives

New cushions and a rug to brighten up the lounge

Lovely sheets/duvet covers

New mattress

Lovely new towels for everybody

What do you actually need?

SquirryTheSquirrel · 18/08/2021 19:05

I might be tempted to buy a high end kettle and/or toaster - Dualit or Smeg.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 18/08/2021 19:08

Shark cordless vacuum cleaner. The one that folds in half. It is great! About £250.

I know that's the most boring possible thing but the whole point of wedding presents is to get dull things that make life easier.

Do you have a garden? I bought an egg chair and it's a game changer.

excelledyourself · 19/08/2021 20:44

Married 15 years and just spending it now? Is that even possible? Am I being thick?? Not unheard of

Furries · 23/08/2021 02:34

I’d spend £300 this year and hope for another £300 next year. That way I would buy 2 rugs, two sets of curtains and 2sets of scatter cushions.

One lot in spring/summer colours and the other set in warm winter colours. So every six months I’d get a “new” living room.

Guineapigbridge · 23/08/2021 02:51

Good knives.

languagelover96 · 24/08/2021 01:28

Paints
Wallpaper
Cushions
Tea trays
Tea pot
Floral things

stepleftorright · 24/08/2021 01:38

Knives are a good idea. I replaced mine recently (not to the extent of £300) and it’s made a big difference.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 25/08/2021 10:00

Errrr if the voucher is 15 years old is it even stil valid OP?

JaninaDuszejko · 26/08/2021 12:16

Anything expensive need replacing? Saucepans, knives, crystal glasses, food processor?

leavesthataregreen · 26/08/2021 12:34

I'd buy really good lighting. It always shocks me how much it costs and I always ended up with budget versions then have lighting envy in other people's homes.
