Dying a leather sofa

Is it possible?

I have a dark brown suite but I don’t like it and don’t really have the funds for a new one.

Can I bleach it myself and put it cream with a leather dye kit?

Or is that just crazy?

You can paint leather, a lot of the bright coloured leathers are coated not tanned.

It would need a few coats though and might crack afterwards.

Hmm 🤔
It’s soft aniline if that makes a difference so absorbs any liquid

Watching as I have a huge very comfortable leather corner suite that would be perfect if it was another colour.

I would be concerned if you attempted to bleach a soft aniline leather. If it’s any help we bought a Parker Knole very soft aniline leather and I emailed them for care instructions. They replied that on no account was leather cream or anything else to be used as it would ruin the leather. They advocated only using a damp cloth and if necessary pure soap flakes. The thought of
you trying to bleach the leather and then painting it sounds pretty dodgy unless you are prepared to replace it in the event of disaster. Could you not dress it up with cushions and some kind of throw?

them for care instructions. I was told that on no account was I to use leather cream or anything on it with the exception of a damp cloth and only pure soap flakes if necessary.
