Green hallway, a bit much?

DH and I both really like the idea of a green hallway, stairs and landing but are arguing over how bright the green should be! DH favours a darker brighter emerald green. I want a soft duck egg green (Teresa's Green in F&B but happy for decorator to colour match to their trade paint).

It's a 3 bed semi, so not huge, and generally the hall is on the darker side, but we are happy to offset that with good lighting. DH is in ents and lots of his show posters will be displayed in the hallway too.

We've painted match pots, I still prefer the lighter colours, he likes the darker ones.

WWYD Mumsnet? I'm so confused and the decorators are coming soon!

You need to battle on till you find a colour you both like, it’s out there.

Try Mylands, their emulsions 3% sheen and washable which you’ll need in a hall.

I think mylands have a theatrical background too.

Friends of mine have just done theirs in a darkish emerald type green and it looks beautiful. Be bold!

Yy Mylands beautiful paint good range of colours, not as extensive as F&B or LG covers really well & hardwearing.

Love the sound of the emerald green but I know I’d bottle it and go light.
Although one of my favourite colours in Dulux tranquil dawn which is pale grey green, very calming. I love bold and calm.

Sorry, useless comment so I’ll second previous poster saying battle it out to find one you both like.

We have 3 floors... Darker radiator covers, some walls paler and some cream... Just whichever sort of connected!! No real plan at first!! Lasted 6 years now!! Used b&q everywhere paint in a teal with a paler greenish... And a creamy off white...

Dark.colours can look amazing with white woodwork, large mirrors, big windows and tall ceilings. I wouldn't be confident in being able to pull it off otherwise.

Pale powder by f and b

We have a similar colour hall way to the colour you describe and like and similarly our hall doesn’t get a lot of natural light either. We have had it done for quite a few years and I still quite like it. We did or rather DH did our bedroom in a darker more vivid/brighter green during lockdown and I wish we hadn’t as after lusting after the colour for ages I rather wished we hadn’t bothered as I quickly tired of it.

I’m in a 1970s bungalow and ended up going for the Dulux Heritage Sage Green for my Hallway in the end. I tried lots of shades of green from soft and muted (F&B French Grey) through to deep (F&B green smoke) but the DH sage green felt like a good balance. It’s a richer green than the online colour shows it to be. I will say though I painted the corridor walls pure bright white, with the porch and and two end walls in the sage green. It felt too dark otherwise (no natural light in my hall being a bungalow).

There’s a lot of us with poorly lit halls isn’t there? Ours is north facing for the hall, upstairs is south facing. I’ve never been happy with that hall way.

PalacePalacePalace · 01/08/2021 08:07

I had the same dilemma. We've compromised on home grown green from coat paints. Though we've not actually done it yet...

Same here, we have navy/white/grey patterned tiles on the floor. Below the dad rail is elephants breath, above is white cotton wooden panelling under the stairs is hicks blue, picture frames few other decorative bits in the blue & really good lighting, it’s taken me years to actually feel as though finally got the hall ‘right’ we also painted the spindles/skirting/door frames white gloss which has made a huge difference.

There’s a really nice f&b one called duck green, it’s new I think, would be somewhere in the middle?

I hate sage and light green though!

This might be too late for you, OP but my friend has a lovely hallway. There is a dado rail and they have a dark teal underneath and white above. Parquet flooring. Looks very modern. I'd say the dark teal is similarish to Dulux 'Teal Tension'. The white above keeps it light.
