Anyone used Bert&May encaustic tiles?

Tiling a wc and utility room. Love Bert & May tiles, chose the green Pradena and pink Bolonia. Both 'encaustic'. Customer service lady told me they are hard to fit and finish and looking at the description I agree.

Will be having a professional person not me or OH. Can't talk to him he's too busy. Has anyone used similar tiles and is it hell?

We had similar encaustic tiles in the en suite in our old house, but a different brand.

A professional tile fitter won’t have a problem, but it will take longer to do the job and you’ll likely get charged a bit more for the trouble.

You need someone who is specialised in encaustic tiles. All the experience in the world with other tiles won’t help. If they don’t prepare the surface properly they crack within a few years. (Ask me how I know.)

Righ….ttt! Sounds like they are beautiful but hard work. Thanks for the info. I just discovered that Bert and May do a few of their best seller encaustics in porcelain, so I think I’ll head down that route.

The people who know what they are doing seem to charge the same as those that don’t! After our disaster the manufacturer sent us a list of recommended fitters.

Shame, because they are beautiful tiles.

We've got the blue pradena tiles in our hallway but we got them from your tiles as porcelain copies as at the time Bert & May didn't do porcelain and we couldn't face all the sealing with encaustic. The patten is called something different there now.

beggingforsleep · 21/07/2021 23:19

They don't feel as nice as the encaustic sample I got from B&M but they look good and were less than half the price with no fitting hassle

Heading to Your Tiles - is that the name? To find cheaper porcelain copies. Life is too short. We’re also doing a kitchen simultaneously and I don’t have the woman power to supervise it all.

Bert & May have a porcelain collection with Fired Earth if that helps

beggingforsleep · 22/07/2021 10:51

@leli here you go yourtiles.com/ranges/kenifra-collection

beggingforsleep · 22/07/2021 10:53

Looking though, they're actually cheaper at Fired Earth at the moment! And at least then you're buying the official thing and not a copy, did feel a bit bad about that

leli · 22/07/2021 10:59

Thank you. Fired Earth it is then.

We have some (can’t remember what but the big pink ones with the white stars) and had the worst customer service I’ve experienced with an online order in a long time! Personally I wouldn’t shop there again on principle which is a shame as their tiles are amazing and our tiler had no problem fitting an awkward space
