Stylish shoe storage for hall

That doesn't look like a traditional shoe rack?

I have a Victorian house with a relatively wide hall. We really need some shoe storage (plus a drawer for keys, other bits and bobs would be nice).

I like this: designvintage.co.uk/collections/vintage-furniture/products/vintage-black-cupboard-nancy

But my DH almost choked at the price. The rest of the colour scheme is grey and white and there will be a light oak parquet floor - I think it could take the darker colour but my DH is nervous of dark colours.

I really don't want to end up with an IKEA Hemnes ... although that is the price my DH expects to pay... as I would like it to be a feature, perhaps with a lamp or flowers on.

Any ideas?

That's a lovely cabinet! More modern in style, but Made.com have a few shoe cabinets, including this rattan one which might be up your street? I'd be keen on it myself if the dratted Hemnes one didn't fit my hallway space exactly..

Cotswold have a range of sideboards in a range of sizes and a range of greys - I like the charcoal one.

We have them Hemnes but you can change the handles and place a wood top to make it more stylish.

If you want a colour the frenchic paint (I'm sure if you Google upcycle Hemnes shoe storage) loads of ideas come up.

I'd just get a sideboard on Ebay and paint it. Loads on there that would work.

I would look at your local free stuff sites like freegle and freecycle. A smallish cupboard or cabinet could easily be upcycled with some chalk paint, which you could probably get for about £5 in aldi.

The black one is beautiful it I agree that’s ever such a lot of money for a small piece of furniture. You could use that as your inspiration and upcycle something?
We use a chest with a lift up lid, so easy to put shoes into but they’re all on top of each other so that may not work for you, especially if you want to put a lamp on top!

Oooh I like the dunelm ones - I have never bought furniture from there, any idea of quality?

I have been searching for cupboards to do up on eBay and marketplace but they all seem expensive! £400 + and I would have to put some effort in. I will keep on looking though.

What about this bespoke? Pricey, I’d imagine, but permanent and you’d get exactly what you need.

dontcallmelen · 20/07/2021 21:09

That cupboard is blinking daylight robbery for what’s essentially a pine cupboard painted, dunelm not bad quality wise or keep a look out in local charity/secondhand shop as well as eBay, it’s really not difficult to upcycle furniture by painting (I would use an eggshell paint rather than chalk paint, get a much better finish) or sand & wax if the wood is in good condition.

Agree with a PP re cotswolds furniture. We have this www.cotswoldco.com/hallway-furniture/shoe-storage-bench/ellwood-charcoal-shoe-storage-bench-with-cushion/ and love it
