Blinds how do you hang

I’m talking as in Roman blinds, we have always hung into the recess but recently I’ve noticed in pics a lot are hung outside the recess, on asking a friend who was putting some up, she said hanging them outside makes them more likely to flap if you have the window slightly open, love to know how others hang theirs

Into the recess here, I don't think they look right on the outside.

Mine are in the recess as I don't think they look right on the outside.

I do get a lot of early daylight around the sides though - bloody east facing bedroom - so they might be more effective as a blackout if they were on the outside.

Some on the inside. On the outside if there's a roller blind in the inside

I was planning on a Roman blind outside and with a straight pelmet. Like this one I saw in a shop.

Mine have all gone funny- the strings have gone odd and now snapped. Is that normal? Is it the condensation and should they be hung away from the glass?
Why me! How do I get a nice home?!

I always hang mine on the outside partly because I have some inward opening windows. I prefer the outside as it covers the whole window when fully dropped and feels cosier and let’s less light in.

Always on the outside. When they're in the recess, you're looking at a plain wall above the window opening and blocking out more natural light inside the window
