Hallway/landing colour help

I want to paint my hallway/landing but I'm really bad with colours and knowing what works etc.

The hallway will have some sort of wooden/wood effect flooring and I have a brown carpet on the stairs/landing.

I want a dulux easycare paint and I'm looking at willow tree or possibly natural hessian, would either of these go with the flooring? Or would there be a better colour?

What colours do people usually choose for their hallways/landings? Most people I know either have wallpaper or white. I don't particularly want grey or cream and I think I'd be forever cleaning the white as my children always seem to make the walls grubby.

Natural hessian is a nice neutral colour, but with wood & brown flooring it might merge a bit into one unless you have some contrasting colour ie; artwork/lampshades also depends on how light/dark the hallway & landing is, a sage green would also work.

It is quite dark in the hallway and bottom half of the stairs but the top half of the stairs and the landing gets much more light so is brighter.

I think you are right about it possibly merging. Due to the layout there is a lot of wall space, the stairwell goes up to the first floor ceiling but artwork or pictures wouldn't work up the stairs so the only contrasting colours would be lampshades, landing curtains and possibly artwork on one wall in hallway.

I'm not sure if I should go with green, a lighter natural colour like nutmeg white or find a different colour completely.

@timeforbed1 hallways are difficult to get right, I have painted mine numerous times most recent has been elephants breath/white cotton (I have dado rails) with some accents of navy I do have a gallery wall as you come in the front door going up too the bottom of the stairs ikwym as my walls are very high going up the stairs which breaks it’s up, if you go with a neutral curtains/some artwork/lampshades would add some interest I also repainted all the skirtings/bannisters etc white which made a difference.
