Shared driveway U.K.

Hi guys :-)

I own a house with a shared driveway, they currently keep their side looking like a sh*thole (sorry for the language) and it's full of rubbish, builders tools etc.
They also park slightly over our drive when they pull into the drive which is really annoying, it makes no space for them to walk so they constantly are walking around their cars onto our drive.

I'm thinking of putting troughs of flowers down the middle so they can't pull onto our drive - do you think this is petty? My partner had spoken to them but they do not clean it up- any other ideas on how to keep them off? They've refused a gate/fence to divide us..

If you use flower troughs or equivalent, remember that you can’t obstruct their half so you would have to place them slightly off-center with the outer edge (from your perspective) on the halfway line.

Is the drive wide enough to for this to be an option?

I’d just get a fence, as long as it’s on the boundary line they can’t object. We had a similar issues with our neighbours but it wasn’t a shared drive just an awful hedge they refused to trim and it was littered with rubbish and dying. We chopped the overhand back on our side and put up a lonely fence.

Do you know if the deeds state that the drive must be kept clear, are you both equally responsible for the upkeep and maintenance. I would put heavy troughs along the middle line as pp suggests.

Tricky one ... do you need to use your driveway? Could you put your bins there?
