Hi everyone, I moved into my first home a few months ago and have gradually been adding to it. So far the place either looks pure scandi style (like the TV unit & small bookcase pictured) or more vintage style (see the Casablanca poster) and I have some of those shell style chairs in the study.

The place is shaping up but almost all the walls are white here in the living room, the 2 bedrooms and the bathroom. I've started pictured which helps but I'm thinking maybe a mural or wallpaper for in here? There is another side wall not pictured with a dining table.

  • what would you suggest for the big blank white wall pictured?
  • I'd like to get another chair for this room but it should look ok with the curtains. I had thought a green velvet chair but not sure about the colouring. Any ideas?

I agree with others that scandi and art deco are two very different styles to mesh. Think you'd be better concentrating on scandi for that room and maybe trying art deco in another room. The one thing both have in common though is I've never seen either theme with a full room carpet so I think once you have got round to replacing that with wood and then have a rug on the floor and maybe nice fluffy blanket over the sofa for that 'hygge' feeling, and put in plain coloured curtains (I think very light/neutral ones would work best) you'll probably have a really lovely room. I really like the little book case.

Maybe swap the main light fitting too to a wicker one? The chandelier type would probably fit more in an art deco themed room if you wanted to keep it but doesn't really go with scandi.

Without being mean - sorry but I laughed at your comment that it must look scandi because you bought some of your furniture pieces in a swedish furniture shop. That could mean Ikea! If I bought a random bookcase from John Lewis I wouldn't suddenly expect my room to look 'British?'

It's all very well saying that you don't have to strictly follow trends and have insta-perfect rooms but if OP has said she's specifically aiming for two very distinct styles I think it's fair enough to point out that at the moment that's not what it's looking like.
