Please help - got to decide on bathroom this weekend!

I am soooo rubbish at this! The bathroom is being started in a week & I still can’t decide on tiles. DH & I are rubbish at putting colours etc together & as a result have a very ‘beige’ ‘safe’ home. I’ve waited a long time to have our bathroom done & now can’t decide what to do but I’d like it to be a bit more interesting.

We both like these patterned floor tiles but I don’t know what tiles to put on wall or how much of the walls to tile. We are having white bath with shower in it & toilet. I’d like a vanity unit but can’t decide on that either; drawer, cupboard, grey or white?! There’s too much choice of everything.

Wall tiles I’ve looked at white, grey, green, metro style, large rectangle, breeze block style!

Please can anyone help or if anyone has a similar bathroom please could you post a pic? Getting desperate now so will post in Property too.

I have to get this sorted this weekend!

I like white subway tiles for the walls.

White subway tiles with grey grout op

Bluesheep8 · 25/06/2021 15:50

Sorry subway/metro. And white vanity unit as it'd be difficult to get the right grey to exactly match the tiles, which I love by the way!

Yep as pps said, or you can put panelling on the walls and paint it instead.

The Ikea vanity units are good value with big pull out drawers, the Hemnes grey one would look nice with your tiles and there is a choice of modern/traditional basins to go on top.
I would tile all round the shower bath but then up to half way behind the basin and loo. Leaves the rest of the walls to paint an interesting colour like that dark blue in the picture.
The advantage of large format tiles is they are easier to clean especially in the shower. You could do large white ones in a brick pattern.

We did our family bathroom very monochrome. I think patterned tiles would have looked nice too but we chose black slate. White metro tiles and the same mid grey grout for floor and walls.

You can't se in that photo but we also have a vanity unit.

I like a wooden vanity unit, but that's me. Think it looks great with grey and especially with the Moroccan look of the tiles. Don't go too modern, in my opinion. I like the navy in the pic so maybe navy metro tiles in an 'arrow' formation. What does Pinterest say?

Please do not put panelling on any walls that will get wet - not sure if that's what the poster meant or not, but panelling is not an alternative to tiles. I speak from experience (of bad choices of a previous owner).

PurplePansy05 · 26/06/2021 00:07

? Obviously panelling wouldn't go in the shower Hmm

However, panelling made of a suitable material can work very well on any other wall.

I love metro tiles with grey grouting. We’ll be going that way when we start our bathroom.

Veuvelily · 26/06/2021 09:18

White grout with metro tiles is a much softer finish. Darker grout is sometimes a bit much with patterned floor tiles
