Looking for wooden carpets that won't cost the earth

I feel like I'm being fussy since I'm not really finding anything but I want 100% wool carpets for the upstairs, in a shade of either whiteish or very light greys and ideally with fitting included cos I simply can't face the fuckery of managing them arriving on the same day we book the fitter since we have nowhere to store them.

Never done this before and I've looked thru the usual Suspects, tapi, carpet right etc without much luck online but maybe my best bet is to go in store?

Any advice, pointers and places to check out really needed 🙌🏻

First I find bastard monkfish, and now wooden carpets. It's very strange on here tonight Grin

I have wooden carpets. They are called floorboards...

At least your autocorrect wasn't swearing!

pickingdaisies · 20/06/2021 19:28

Oh, and have you looked at John Lewis?

We've just fitted this is several rooms. I think you would be hard pressed to find a cheaper 100 per cent wool carpet. The fitter couldn't believe it, it is really good quality. You would need to arrange a fitter though. We just stepped over it for a few days between it being delivered and fitted - it is rolled pretty tightly.

have you got a CarpetBarn near you, they are very reasonable

cheeseismydownfall · 20/06/2021 19:31

That link is to the one we have which is the lightest shade, a neutral cream, not too yellow. They have grey shades as well.

Oh goodness that one is beautiful and at least a third cheaper than similar I've seen! Gonna check if they do samples, thank you!

Designer carpets is very good. They sell roll ends of very good quality carpet at very cheap prices. You have to find your own carpet fitter and they only deliver to the kerbside but if you can manage that then I would recommend them.

Berber is nice hut no use if you have a cat.

Paying your own local fitter does save money, though.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 21/06/2021 23:38

Having had an infestation of bastard carpet moths that appear to be completely indestructable, I'd never have a woollen carpet again.
Wooden sounds a much better idea.

SoosanCarter · 22/06/2021 07:32

Berber carpets are heavenly for a cat to claw.

cheeseismydownfall · 22/06/2021 10:56

OP, yes they do samples. The ordering process was pretty simple.

After a few false starts we found a helpful local fitter via Facebook who offered a fit-only service (most only fit carpets they supply). He came and measured up and gave us the sizes we needed to order for each room, and at which width (they do both 4m and 5m, which was important for us as one of our rooms is 5m in both directions).

I then ordered each room by adding them separately to my basket (i.e if you need two rooms done, one 4x4 and one 3x4 you order them as two separate pieces, not one piece at 7x4).

bunnybutts · 22/06/2021 11:03

Oh god don't get wool carpets. Our have been destroyed by moths. Synthetic all the way for us now.

RampantIvy · 22/06/2021 11:06

Are there no local independent carpet shops near you?
We have used local ones for years, and the service has been excellent.

fruitbrewhaha · 22/06/2021 11:11

Another vote for an independent shop. We went for the cheaper end of woollen, I think about £35/40 psm. We went for a thicker version on our staircase and slightly thinner in the rooms which you can't feel the difference but will wear a bit better. They send them with the fitter.

Just head to a shop as we were in and out within a hour, job done.
