Has anyone painted a white uPVC front door?

We have this horrible white uPVC front door which I am desperate to replace but estimates are coming it at £000s which we can't afford. I've seen online people have painted front doors using frenchic paint. Has anyone done this in real life? How does it hold up?

There was a thread on this a while ago where someone had done it and it looked great. Sorry, can't remember the title though.

Search for 'painting front door' or 'painting uPVC front door' - there are a lot of threads.

I honestly can’t remember what paint our painters used, but we just got them to paint the front door and garage door when they were painting inside the house — that was in 2015, and it’s held up perfectly well.

And looks about a million times better.

We just got a leaflet from Homemade on exterior paints and it had a section on how to paint UPVC doors. Good luck!

We did! We used the Zinsser 123 primer then a topcoat we had mixed at Johnstones, I can't remember the type but it was a vinyl matt I think. It looked great. We've moved since but it hasn't deteriorated in over a year. Definitely worth it, amazing transformation of the door from white plastic to a lovely petrol blue.

Search 'frenchic' paint.

I painted a very tired exterior grey plastic toilet soil pipe with standard exterior black gloss last year...it was all streaky and matt grey with worn faded patches and it's held up beautifully and looks exactly like the cast iron black one round the back!
I gave it a wipe down with water/fairy liquid and a cloth and painted it as soon as it was dry.

I painted my conservatory window frames with Frenchic a couple of years back and it’s held up really well. The trick is 3 or 4 very light coats and build it up. If it’s too thick it will peel. You will need a warm dry day for a front door and start the first coat as early as possible. Don’t skimp on waiting 2 hours between coats, even if it seems dry.

I'm just in the process of getting all our windows done professionally by a company that's done a few of my friends doors and they look brilliant.

I've attached a screenshot of an Instagram page I follow and she painted her doors with Gutter paint

I've painted my composite door with it last summer.

I'd been told by the builder it couldn't be painted but it was grey like a prison door and I hated it so much I decided to go for it, id had a quite for £300 to have it sprayed.

I painted it light blue from the alfresco outdoor range and it's glorious.

Update if you're interested. We finally had all our internal window frames professionally spray painted black this week, love them!

I had my dark coloured internal windows painted white. Dramatic improvement.
You need a good primer but then ordinary paint of your choice.
