Off-white colour for hallway and stairs

Going to get my hall, stairs and landing painted before I move into the house I’m buying.
But stuck for what colour, just going to say white, but is that too stark? I tried looking at off-white colours but there are loads!
What’s a simple solution baring in mind I’m not going over again until I’ve bought the house and the decorators want to buy the paint in advance.

I also can’t really remember what colour it was. It was just overwhelming for detail. I just go over and think ‘yay, still love it”
The floor was grey laminate. So I was thinking a very pale grey.
Any advice?
Will I even notice 🤯

Frosted steel is a good off white grey.
Goose down is grey but quite light and airy.

Dulux Egyptian Cotton.
Had this in holiday accomodation recently and liked it so much I enquired to find out what it was.

We have just painted our hallway in Midnight Snow.

We have Egyptian Cotton in our lounge, it is really lovely and I will choose it again. I bought the standard Dulux, and it wipes off when I wipe the walls so next time I’m going to the more durable version.

I can recommend champagne creme matt by Johnstone’s paints. It is not cream as name suggests but a very pale pebble colour. I have just painted my living room and it is a very sophisticated colour that changes with light and is not so stark as pure white which can look wrong in certain houses. Hope this helps

We are doing a similar thing and painting the house before bringing the stuff after an hour in B &Q with a 7 year old who was complaining we decided to go with Dulux timeless

@altiara what have you chosen?

altiara · 23/06/2021 23:12

@Didicat i’m going for……dulux timeless! Grin

The decorator also suggested it! It’s being decorated at the weekend. Hope it doesn’t look too white. Have previously read on her about light and colour wheels and all sorts of complicated stuff. Feel very traumatised now by choosing a colour at random! But the hall, stairs and landing get light in different places so maybe I shouldn’t worry.

Looking at rugs now for living room. Anyone want to help with the rug search?

@altiara we are the same, the house is oriented the other way round to our last house so no idea how the light will be in the house, but seems a good base to work from that we can live with till we decide.

SamG93 · 24/06/2021 06:29

@Didicat dulux timeless shouldn't look too white at all, I think it could go in any room. We recently painted our dark, north facing hallway/landing with timeless above the dado rail and just walnut below it and it looks lovely!

SamG93 · 24/06/2021 06:29

Whoops I tagged the wrong person Grin@altiara

Just make sure you test a bit first if you’re having Timeless. I have it in a bedroom - middle room of a Victorian house so little light, and it’s a beautiful soft white - Cala lily coloured. I then started painting the internal hallway that colour because I liked it so much in the bedroom…. And it looked crap! Like a nicotine white with yellow undertones. Ended up going for Little Greene Slaked Lime Mid for the hallway which looks miles better

Take a look at Victory Colours, their paints are yummy and they are low voc!

We’re trying to decide on a paint on our hallway and stairs too. I favour white and then adding pictures for interest. DH wants a colour on the wall going up the stairs. Urgh! It’s so hard finding something.
